Re: Negative Remarks Regarding Hosts

[ Edited ]

I do agree pretty much with the "golden rule."

I do think it is ok to critique a sales technique or even to talk about a hosts clothing or hair.

However, there are ways and then there are ways to say something and I think we ALL know the difference between a constructive criticism and just plain mean.

And this includes replying to each other in this forum.

I'm beginning to wonder if some actually want the reputation of who can be the most unpleasant by most always replying to many posts with a personal attack against the poster, for no reason at all.

There is no defense against just plain being a bully, nor saying something to purposely hurt someone, maybe thinking it is clever or funny (though humor can sometimes be used in a great way to point something out without hurting the person).

Words do hurt because we are human beings with feelings.

And I bet there will be negative replys to this post like well, everyone has a different view of what is mean blah blah.

We ALL know the difference if we have any intelligence or emotional intelligence at all.

It's not just here that this happens, but all over.

And I guess you can tell by this post that (to quote Howard Beale in Network) "I'm mad... and I'm not going to take it anymore!"

He said he was a human being with values and so are we all lets hope!

Re: Negative Remarks Regarding Hosts

I would be curious to know what guidelines are set for hosts.  What are they allowed to talk about and how are they evaluated?  I think it has to be a lot more than just sales.  For example, some hosts speak quite a bit about their personal lives, while others are all business.  Some smooze with vendors, while others just provide product information.  Each of us has a preference of what type of hosts we like.  Sometimes we like a person's voice or mannerisms or personality.  I often wonder if the hosts have to watch videos of themselves to see how they come across to viewers.  I've been shopping on QVC for nearly thirty years, so I've seen the good, the horrible and everything else in between.

I would never walk in to a store and tell a sales person "You have such a lovely face, it's a shame you are so overweight". But some do that here.

I would never tell someone "Did someone use a lawnmower to cut your hair? It looks terrible". But, they do that here.

I would never tell my usual salesperson "You've gained a few pounds dear, you should cut back on the quarter pounders". But, they do it here.

I would never walk up to someone in management and say "What were you thinking when you hired that person. They are awful and have no personality".

Those that come here to put down a host they decide they really don't like will be cruel and then make the claim that they are just trying to help the host or management. No, they aren't trying to be helpful, they are building themself up by cutting someone else down. Pointing out flaws they see in someone else is not constructive to anyone.

I don't know any of the hosts personally, do you? If so, then tell them to their face what you like and dislike about them. I really doubt that telling them something like that would keep your friendship for long.

To me, they are just salespeople. That is their job. Pleasing everyone is not. What I would do in a store is the way I would do in talking to these people making a sale.

Yes, every product is wonderful, it's just perfect for every person, and it is a top seller. It's the same in a store you go into. No salesperson will tell you "I wouldn't buy that if I were you". No salesperson will ask you if you can afford their product either, that is up to you.

The hosts are on TV, they are not celebrities. It's the viewer that makes them that in their own minds. The only opinions the hosts hand out is about their product, and every one of those is that the product is wonderful. They don't deserve being "cut down to size".

Kathy used to say how she got letters telling her she had "let herself go" by gaining 10 pounds. She's human and we all gain and lose from time to time.

The meanness shown on here is really not called for. Hiding behind a screen name and a computer gives some a sense that they can do anything they want no matter how cruel.

Manners, respect and responisibility have all been thrown away thanks to Freedom of whatever anyone wants to claim. Not many are polite any more.

If you have the right to critique my job, do I have that same right with yours? If not, why not?

Re: Negative Remarks Regarding Hosts

I don't watch anymore. Why? Because I want product info.  Some hosts are FULL OF THEMSELVES and I never really get information, just self serving banter.  Not mentioning any names.  But I thought shopping channels are in the business to sell things NOT promote those who work for them.

Re: Negative Remarks Regarding Hosts

QVC is a RETAIL BUSINESS and their business to sell products....This Forum is for CUSTOMERS NOT HOSTS!!!  So you shouldn't worry about hurting a host's feelings....This is TV Shopping Channel Forum and not a Host Fan Club Page...

ALL RETAILERS ask customers to critique how they are doing and that includes QVC.....if a host is making people watch and buy less --- customers have a right to provide constructive criticism and with QVC's sales declining they need all the help they can get.  Now just plain nasty comments are the ones the Moderators take care of....IT'S THEIR DECISION AND THEIR JOB!!!.....

All jobs have an evaluation program....Retail Surveys are sent out all the time to critique a customer's shopping experience....so valid feedback is welcomed here as long as it's not considered unkind which is the job of the MODS ...

QVC can't afford to have a lot of customers turning the channel...so if a post about a host upsets you move on and change the thread you're reading....And I've seen nastier comments directed to those critiquing someone's favoite, than what was even said about the host....

People get ugly and nasty with their host comments and then justify it to themselves as constructive criticism and fredom of speech, and hosts work in a profession that they should be able to take the heat, and on and on.

Its one thing to say I did not care for Nellies hairdo tonight, instead of saying Nellie look horrible with that nasty hairdo.

But, as I said people will justify their hatefullness.

@Imaoldhippie

Bingo!  Critiquing job performance is an employer/employee function.

Justifying one’s gossip & maligning of others as critiquing is arrogant self-justification, plain & simple.

@SurferWife

Doesn't work that way in the retail world!!!!....I guess you've NEVER received an email, or a receipt asking you to complete a Suvey where  they ask you to critique your shopping experience-- which includes asking you not only about the merchandise but give a critique as a customer regarding their employees....I think this weekend alone every store where I shopped both online and instòre asked me to complete a survey and they offered a coupon or said they'd put me in a drawing for a gift card to entice me to complete their Survey!!!

Tĥe Hosts chose this career and know what they are getting into from the interviews I've seen and read on TV Shows and business journals titled "A day in the life of a QVC host"....QVC also had some blogs that gave a behind the scenes look regarding the host's job...And they know what they getting into are well compensted from what's been reported...

I wonder why the moderators pick and choose which Host bashing they delete and which they leave up?  I have observed that any negative remarks made abot Shawn are immediately deleted and yet for example the two different threads bashing Antonella are left up as other host bashings have been untouched.  Hmmm, wonder if that is in her contract?  I personally dislike the bashing threads because we are all have feelings. However, I have read threads about Shawn that  were not bashing just remarks regarding her hosting and they were still removed.   I seldom watch the Q live so I really don't care how they act or what they wear and think people who are bothered by them are watching way too much. Lol.

Some call it host bashing, i call it critique,  based on her inability to do her job correctly.  I know some get overboard with her sense of style, but she really needs retraining and some knowledge of how she makes the customer feel when trying to purchase their products. The moderators should show the bosses what the complaints are about,after all we are their bread and butter.

The bosses know on a second-by-second basis how a host is being received by sales during a presentation.  If a host is meeting or exceeding sales expectations "the bosses" are not going to interfere.

Although there may be a lot of complaints about a host on the boards posters represent a tiny percent of Q's customer base and when you consider that many of the complaints are from the same posters...

@Marp

Let me ask you a question----would less people watching a particular host impact sales ñumbers?????.....

And since January...there are have been so many changes in shows and hosts, were customers not watching and buying (sales were down).....and then there's little remarks made here and there...One host mentioned QVC doesn't know what to do with this time slot, and has tried different things ....and they decided to bring the two of us back........And look at the change of the main host on Fashion Night In and moving a host that gets a lot of comments to a later time slot instead of Prime Time...Things that make you go.....hmmm.

Some bought into the sales gimmick "the hosts are your friends"...and its the same ole "fan club"  that thinks it's their job to defend QVC and hosts and take on the task of assistant moderators...

Re: Negative Remarks Regarding Hosts

[ Edited ]

It seems to me that every host I really like and enjoy watching either leaves or gets assigned to an offshoot QVC channel that is not on my cable line-up.  Not many hosts on the main QVC channel that I will even watch, so I don't.

I wish that we could watch videos of all the bashers and nasty posters here so the rest of us could "critique" every thing they say or wear.
