Look at any real store and think about how much they pay in salaries for the sales staff, office staff, cleaning staff, stock room people, etc. etc. They spend a heck of a lot more than QVC does on salaries I'll bet. I mean really how many people could it take to run that operation? Think about the chain stores across the country and the rent, labor, utility bills, etc. etc. that they have to shell out money for.

I can tell you that most chain stores hourly pay isn't above $12.00 an hour and that's a very GOOD rate. Many positions are at minimum wage unless they have put in the years. Most women have an almost impossible time unless they have someone to share expenses with as in being married or having a roommate of some type.

Pay has always revolved around education and many in the normal B & M stores are housewives who have gone back after rearing children or because of other circumstances that require additional funds.

I'm pretty sure the hosts have contracts, so the Q can't arbitrarily lower their salaries.

But look at the volume QVC sells with ONE person in "sales." THAT is amazing. No wonder they are worth big bucks. No stores all over the country to run, basically a small crew, one in sales, and warhorses cranking out the goods. The profit margin has to be huge.

Don't believe the rumors about what the on air reps make. The starting salary is around $65k a year. The senior "hosts" can make middle six figures but that is the exception.

They start off, at more that that.

QVC stock and sales are fine. My raises were bypassed for three years due to the economy and often a Company does what It can to retain employees rather than fire them....I am sorry for your financial hardship but another person should not lose his/her job because of any viewers financial problems or opinion about prices. Maybe I wouldn't be spending any money on QVC at all if the situation were mine.

Prices and salaries, in fact, DO have a correlation. Companies take into account ALL costs when setting prices not just the cost of the actual product. For many companies salaries & benefits are one of the highest categories of costs. QVC has more than 17,000 employees worldwide and ALL of their salaries and benefits are taken into account when calculating prices for each product. Having worked at a fortune 500 company in the financial planning & profitability analysis areas, I know that understanding company costs and setting prices is a very complex process. So many people seem to think that companies should just absorb costs, cut prices, and reduce profits. That is NOT the way a multi-billion dollar a year company works and that is also NOT the way a Mom and Pop works. In our society companies have a responsibility to their shareholders to generate a profit, when publicly held, and to all of their owners when not public.

Nobody is forcing anyone to buy from QVC. Perhaps if sales went down, the prices would follow. Cutting host's salaries isn't going to do anything. QVC makes that amount if money by selling one product at times. Do the math.

QVC has a lot of hosts at high pay, also many technicians behind the scenes--camera, "producers", food stylists, warehouse/shipping people, order entry operators, customer service, buyers, etc. etc. Plus their sets are fancy and I understand the QVC building is huge so they need cleaning staff, etc., plus the people that move things around the sets, must be a huge utility bill too. It must cost a lot of money to run QVC. I'm sure they make a huge profit on many of the items and we all know they sell thousands of a lot of the items in a day. I also notice how much clothing prices have risen for some time now and especially when the new shipping policy started.

THIS is the key if you truly want/hope to see lower prices!

"What the heck is happening to QVC." Someone asked. Well QVC is doing great! 8.8 BILLION dollars in sales in 2014, up almost 8%. So to answer, A LOT of people are very happy with QVC. Critics on this site are a tiny % of customers.
