Who in the heck has a dog walker?

I volunteer my husband if I am not in the mood.  He works for food.  I doubt he'd want a tote bag.

To me, she tries awfully hard to come across as the quintessential down to earth home town girl, but I find her disingenuous and cloying, so I dont last long when she's presenting, no matter what she's presenting.

We have a lot of dog walkers here in California. If I paid a dog walker the amount shown below, I would consider a $100 gift as acceptable.  Per Google:

In California, dog walkers earn an average of $35,301 per year, or $17 per hour. However, salaries can vary depending on experience and location.

Salary by experience

  • 0–2 years: $26,000 per year
  • 3–6 years: $30,000 per year
  • 7+ years: $34,000 per year
Salary by location

  • Oakland: $23.45 per hour
  • San Francisco: $23.05 per hour
  • San Diego: $21.05 per hour
  • San Mateo: $19.59 per hour
  • Beverly Hills: $19.25 per hour

Dog walking rates

  • Dog walkers typically charge between $24 and $34 for a 30-minute dog walking service
  • The average cost across the US for a 30-minute dog walking service is $29.50 in 2024

Lots of dog walkers in where I live in northern VA, DC, NYC, and many, many other communities.  It's very common.

All of the hosts exaggerate that pitch of buy for you and one for your [fill in the blank].

But no one tops Jane Treacy during a La-Z-Boy presentation last year for their nearly $2,000 chair.  Jane said, "it's best to buy one in a solid and another in a print."

I laughed until my coffee got cold.

Well I must be cheap.  I would no how, no way pay anyone $20+ an hour to walk my dogs.  In fact,  I wouldn't hire anyone to do that for any price.

We have always walked our own dogs.....no experience needed.  Leash up, open the door, go outside out and walk.  Oh, carry poop bags and pick up after the dogs.  Easy peasy.

My friend, Barbara, who retired from corporate life, is a dog walker.  She's actually quite busy.

And she gets nice gifts, especially at Christmas.
