Just wanted to give a big shout out to Mary D re: viewers and the upcoming holidays. Every year, I have noticed Mary D makes a special moment on the air on her shows to let people who may be alone over the holidays that "we are always here for you." I have had to spend a major holiday or two alone before and Madison Avenue and all the hype put such a big spin on everyone being together and happy and everything is wonderful...when we all know it for the most part is just a fantasy and ad campaigns. On the times I found myself alone during major holidays, QVC was always on in my house (as it is most days anyway). I have never forgotten this, so I just wanted to mention Mary D and thank her for remembering those who are alone for the upcoming major holidays. So, thank you Mary D!
And for anyone who is alone this year for the major holidays, just know you are not alone and the hype is a bear to get through, but you can do it!

If, as she says, they are there for us, why don't they provide special programming on Christmas Eve and Day? How long would it take for the hosts to do a short clip to be aired over the down time? One could make a punch recipe, another read a book to their grandchildren. Even a make-up session for a dressy night out. I think this would be the time to create a personal tie with the viewers.

@AuntG Q used to do that - I still remember Jane T and her daughters making cookies and there were many others as well. Then they changed to just repeating their merchandise programs.

Yes, I heard Mary say the same comment on Thursday's BFD presentation. And it did help me since my mom is now confined in a nursing home ... it's only me & DH. My last (pet) dog passed on my wedding anniversary this year. All nieces & nephews relocated to sunny FL ... we're still residing where it is 38 degrees this morning.
So just know you have a friend in the One who made you too!
Happy Thanksgiving.

You probably would be surprised at the number of alone people there really are.
When I was single our local watering hole would do a potluck on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years it was mainly for singles that had no families or their families did not live near. But all people were invited.
I had a friend several years ago that her husbands family owned a pizza chain in Columbus, Ohio. Their busiest day of the year was Thanksgiving, with Christmas and New Years following close.
Just think of the Beatles song Eleanor Rigby. That says it all.

@seaBreeze I get it! I never had kids. My only sibling passed away in 2017. My mom passed away a year ago at this time of year. It's just my hubby and I. We live in sunny FL where it's rather chilly here this morning. We are inviting neighbors for Friendsgiving this year. They don't have any local peeps either. Christmas is hard for me. I love Christmas but without family it's not the same. We are heading to Asheville to see an exhibit. And the Biltmore in all of its glory. I think there are a lot of lonely people out there. But we make it work

@Seminole2 ..................Have you checked to make sure that there are places to stay in Asheville and the Biltmore is open? They were hit very bad with Hurricane Helene and there is a lot of damage everywhere due to flooding. People are still living in tents in some places. I dont know if the boil advisory is still in effect for Ashevillle or not.

@Imaoldhippie yes the Biltmore is open and we have reservations at a local hotel. All good! Biltmore sent out emails when they reopened at the beginning of the month saying "we are looking forward to you visiting".. and water was restored this week as well. But thank you for asking!
With great joy and deep gratitude, we welcome you for our most beloved traditions, Christmas at Biltmore and Candlelight Christmas Evenings. Biltmore House, the Conservatory, and Antler Hill Village & Winery, resplendent in holiday décor, await your arrival, as do Chihuly at Biltmore, our estate restaurants, shops, and overnight properties.
As you plan to join us for the season of joy and wonder, we hope you find the following information helpful.
Clean drinking water is restored and our community is welcoming guests to support recovery.
Is Chihuly at Biltmore open and will it be extended?
Yes! Amherst at Deerpark®, where our Chihuly at Biltmore exhibition is located, sustained minimal to no damage from Helene.
Chihuly at Biltmore has also been extended through February 2, 2025.

@AuntG - I would guess QVC believes that all the content they've been uploading to their app and social media platforms over the past few years that includes much more than show reruns is filling the gap instead of the old holiday special recordings. It would be interesting if they could just add some of those older recordings as well.
