There are so many shows that I do not watch anymore because of the hosts and the frustration I feel. I stopped, for the most part, almost a year ago. The constant chatter, getting off point and the endless 'cutting up and joking' are too much for me. I tune in to purchase....not for a comedy hour.
So, now I shop online......I check the items recently shown. It has worked great for me. I must admit I miss the calmer hosts....but they are long gone for the most part. Sad.

You know, I was thinking about Mary Beth Roe the other day. I use to watch QVC more than now, I am talking years ago. And she was on a lot more.
She was such a pleasure to watch (still is)
She has always been able to get her point across in a calm, cool and collected manner, while connecting to the viewer. Just is such a professional, I know there are some others that are like that too.
Different strokes for different strokes.

@corita You are exactly right!! Loud & fast talking does nothing for me, except make me want to RUN!! I have NEVER watched Rick D for more than 2-3 min. because of this. I can not stand someone loud. I have a friend, who occasionally gets wound up over something, and starts talking very loud.. It makes me want to get away from her ASAP, even tho I usually enjoy her company.

I am not excusing rude behavior, but I do have to factor in that the host is getting continuous instructions and information that the producer wants announced pronto, all the while trying to respond intelligently to the vendor’s ongoing chatter/comments and relaying their own sales pitch. It’s no wonder that the hosts often come across as rude and strident, especially the less experienced ones. I think having someone constantly talking in my head set would drive me nuts. At least some hosts say ‘excuse me’ if they interrupt to provide the latest updates on availability. How they do this job without shushing someone up is testimate to better self control than I would have.
Shrill voices and loud talking sales pitches are another matter. It does not induce me to buy, and I’ll leave it at that.

@CalminHeart. I think you hit the nail on the head. I'm sure they are doing exactly as they are told. It seems when the ramped up enthusiasm is displayed, sales go up. That is the bottom line for a company.
It would be different if that hard sell and screeching and yelling worked, but it hasn't ....For 2017 for the USA division of QVC revenues remained flat (zero increase)....and they almost had a decline...so their scheme isnt working, and I'm tired of hear,"it must beworking or they wouldnt be doing it"..... QVC doesnt work that way, despite decline quarter after quarter after quarter of electronic sales declines the Q continues to present them...........Execs arent making wise decisions....JMHO
Interesting that Zulilly that has no TV presence and I coudlnt tell ya when I saw a commercial for them, but silence must be golden when you let the product speak for itself because their sales increased 11%
HI @Spurt I do not follow these financial reports, I just always go back to thinking about Amazon, which for years has been far more focused on growth over profit (and has obviously worked very, very well for them). JMO.
HI @Mj12
I dont know if you saw the news tonight but Amazon is starting to get attention regarding anti-trust and monopoly laws....And despite 5.6 Billion in U.S. profits they paid ZERO in federal taxes in 2017.....During the previous five years, Amazon reported U.S. profits of $8.2 billion and paid an effective federal income tax rate of just 11.4 percent. This means the company was able to shelter more than two-thirds of its profits from tax during that five year period...........

@Spurt, as with most things right now, that "attention" has already dialed back. I suspect that the tough talk had much more to with the fact that Bezos owns the Washington Post than any concern about the little people.

That's one of my complaints:
Let the vendor speak
My other complaint:
The host needs to have a pleasant voice.

@Twins Mom- I agree with you about a host placing a personal order while presenting a product. I've read many posts about Shawn doing this over and over. Maybe it's part of her sales technique showing the viewer that it's such a fantastic item that the even the host is buying? Who knows.....but it was rude to interrupt to place her own order. Tacky.

I agree on both points. The pleasant voice should be one of the main requirements for being hired. Those that select hosts sure don't take that into consideration.
