The ones that crack me up the most are the ones who insist that Carolyn and Dan and the others received no separation benefits.
Even though Qurate disclosed in black and white (with regulators) that the layoffs cost them $24 million in severance compensation and benefits!

There's often a HUGE difference between idealism and realism. Idealistically for many of us, in addition to desiring world peace, we'd also prefer that Carolyn and Dan were still QVC hosts. But realistically we're living in a big, ugly, fallen world where greed, money, ego, and overpaid executives determine how corporate business affairs will be managed and they couldn't care less about the feelings or the opinions of their employees or their customers. Their bottom line is net profit. To the extent enough customers band together and voice either their pleasure or displeasure through significant changes in their spending practices, businesses may eventually take notice and make changes for the sake of their own self-interests. But that's highly improbable and unlikely in today's world since most companies care only about profits and simply turn a deaf ear to everything else.

So many post without knowing the facts. I know someone who was let go from HSN (one of the 400) and he received a very generous severence, including benefits.

Are you serious? I know 4 people laid off recently from other companies. They are all around 50 with children they are raising, most with kids in their teens about to go to college. I believe they are all in worse shape than Carolyn and Dan who have raised their families and much closer to retirement age. My son in law was informed last week by his boss that he had to give the names of two people who reported to him that would be let go. He felt awful but he gave them the names of the two who were not raising children. Its tough. They let go 200 people by way of email. Can you imagine, not even in person. This is happening everywhere to good people. Corporate only cares about the bottom line. This is not personal, its business and they are doing whatever they think will help the bottom line. Sad this is happening, but you need to move on like Carolyn and Dan are doing.

@noramae You have no need to yell. And hope you get over your so sad broken heart soon. I"m sure Carolyn and Dan would be soooo touched. Sarcasm intended.

They let them go, just like big corporations do.

SMALL companies operate the exact same way...to MAKE A PROFIT for themselves and thier families, and enough to keep thier employees, employed.
Sheeesh.
NO ONE'S "Giving it away" or hanging on to people they can't afford to pay salary and benefits and overheads to.
Sheeesh. The average hourly wage in the US now is about 33.00 and hour...that's 265 PER DAY for each employee, NOT INCLUDING overheads like benefits, SS taxes, health insurance, sick time....
265 a day . 1320 a week....$68,000 a year.
You don't keep employees hanging on at those levels of wages if they aren't producing for your business, or, the business can't sustain that.
(NOTE: AVERAGE wage per hour, Bureau of Labor Statistics as of Feb 2022)
Wage inflation is part of what is causing inflation. It's a double edged sword...if YOU or someone in YOUR family is making more now, do you want them to go back to their previous wages to "make things cheaper"? I think not.
And C+D were NOT hourly employees you can bet on that.
Doesn't ANYONE out there own a small business? Even if your employees make HALF that per hour, YOU figure it out how much it costs per week to hold onto someone, "just because"...
NOT how the world works today.
Or ever did.

Qurate will save $60 million in 2024 due to the recent 400 layoffs.
That's significant, even for a company of Qurate's size.
A $150,000 average in salary and benefits per employee.
And another 400 could save the same!
And 400 after that!
