Re: Made me laugh, or wait maybe cringe...

Perhaps it is a regional thing.  I have always heard it pronounced "empire".  And I go way back...

Who gardens in a dress?  The restriction of trying to bend, stoop and crawl, lift and manuever around a garden to peform tasks wearing a dress makes that pitch ridiculous.  I suppose if one is only watering plants on a balcony a dress is fine.

LOL.

I believe the ones that will garden in the dress will be sending the $50.00+ gifts to the hairdresser, postman, and everyone else for Christmas!!!  LOL!

I remember a beautiful lime green empire (like building) in late '60's. Guess it might be regional pronunciation difference. No biggie. However, can't see gardening in one unless for just watering.

Who gardens in a dress? Why Mrs Waterford in the Hulu series "The Handmaid's Tale". Doesn't that just make you want to dress all in teal blue from head to toe like her?

I've only ever heard it pronounced em- pire, except for QVC.

Probably a regional thing....... I've only heard it called the French pronounciation since I wore high-waisted dresses in high school (we're talking dinosaur days!).  "Empire" sounds bizarre to me.
