This post reminds me of a Frasier episode where a caller told Frasier that his mother was literally hanging around the house. Frasier had to correct him by telling him that the word he should be using was figuratively.  He told the caller that for her to be literally hanging around the house she would have to be a bat.

Of course that didn't go over well with the caller and he insulted Frasier and then hung up.

I'm always surprised at how many people misuse that word.  They "literally jumped out of their skin" or they "literally laughed so hard they busted a gut".

Sorry to hijack this thread but when I see that word I always think of that Frasier episode.

Ha!  Yeah, misuse is right.  I've heard Q hosts say things like  "these are literally flying out of here!"

Really?  They're sprouting wings and flying?  lol

2) Chic

3) Envy of your friends/family

4) Dress it down or up

Don't forget the famous "here's the thing" that they all have picked up on.

My daughter used to use "literally" all the time.  I thought it was a high school thing.  Now she's moved on to the word "legit."  I over hear a lot of "Younger" people saying it a lot.
