What on earth does shopping at the Q have to do with retirement?

It seems you are not planning to stop shopping--you will just spend your money in different places.

The logic escapes me, but, oh well.

I never make promises to my DH about how I spend the money I have earned!

Re: Leaving the Q behind

[ Edited ]

Congratulations!  I am so done buying - well overbuying - that I have really cut  down.  If I bought clothing, it was from other places that always offer petite sizes.  My closets are overflowing, and I think you know the drill.  I still buy a good amount of books - used and new - that I donate after reading,

Crazy amount of jewelry, shoes, handbags, that I am culling and giving away.  Of course, even my DD, DIL, and teen GD

have more than they need,

I know what you mean. I sure didn't need all the clothes I had after retiring.

I gave all my business attire to women's shelter a few months after I retired. I haven't needed them in the years since.

I had to buy a few casual clothes after retiring. I have very casual "dog" clothes for around the house and yard work because my dog sheds like crazy.

I just bought a nice dress for my son's wedding this spring. I haven't worn a dress in 20+ years. I refuse to wear hose but will use some self tanner on my legs so they don't glow in the dark.

Last year I gave up QVC for Lent. No tv. No online. I even removed the channel from my YouTubeTV channel lineup so that I wouldn't accidentally channel surf into it. I only went into my account to pay off my EZ pays. After Easter I noticed that I was shopping less and less.

I bought some things at Christmas for gifts and started looking at the TSVs every evening. I found that I was starting to slip into old habits. So I'm giving it up for Lent again this year.

@spumoni99

I was always curious why people come to forums here and don't shop on QVC of even HSN?

Please be kind if replying, that was why I never asked before. I'm just so curious as to why? I mean many topics they chime in on are about a product Q sells so why do they post on boards here?

I've been on the Beauty site since I found it one day many years ago but was off a good long while after a life event.

Now that I'm several years older and my tastes have changed I'm may be venturing out to other forums and checking them out. Thx for hearing me out on something I never understood Smiley Wink

I so agree about putting limits on bath products, skin care, makeup, fragrances.  for me, I have always bought for gifts - everyone says no more please dear, I have plenty.

And for me?  The Search for the Holy Grail.  I think I look decent for my age, my skin is very good due to heredity.

But I need to try everything looking for a miracle that never comes.

I also buy perfume from an off-site, as I like a little collection of different types of scents for the seasons.

I have so many beautiful clothes and shoes and handbags in closet. Have been retired many years.  Most from the Q when I was working.  i am one of the people who kept the Q going.

Now, i buy very little.  A lot of the clothes still in style, but I got much shorter and the pants are too long.  i have hemmed quite a few.  The wide leg ones still in style.

I dress nice almost every day and get compliments on what I am wearing from younger people.

I  don't wear those black tights out, because, we used to wear them to work out at the gym.  Some people need to look in the mirror when they wear them out.  Not criticizing their size, just the look is not appropriate when you are walking behind them.  In my area, that is all they are wearing.

Now, i am old, so I come from a different era.

Even real skinny people don't look good in them, just my opinion.

With my retirement looming later this year (yay!)....I made an "oath" to my hubby this AM that with April's Q card payment, I will pay it off in full.  Then the card goes into hibernation and my viewing will be cut as well. The only orders that I will place are for shoes because I have fat feet and cannot buy shoes at any dept. store and my current auto delivery orders that run through the summer and fall this year.  After that I will order from the vendors directly for my beauty products.  I do like my Elemis and Yensa products and even Whish.

Putting it in writing also makes me accountable Smiley Happy

I have enough clothes to get through my first couple of years of retirement just fine and like I posted on another thread, I have taken a liking once again to Lands End with their awesome sales.  I also buy from J Jill and will continue to do so with their also awesome sales.

My hubby just smiled and wished me luck with my "oath"...time and tide will tell.

That's probably the same smile I give DH when he cleans off the kitchen table where he nests and says he's going to keep it clean this time.
