I was told by the owner of a Candy Shop that the price of chocolate has more than doubled in this last year.

@Puggywuggy  Its true! I watched a news segment from Inside Edition on youtube. There's a chocolate raw material shortage worldwide, so the prices are going up from drugstore candy brands to expensive chocolate brands.

I so understand.  I wrote on another thread tht I'm tapped out financially  I shop around to get the best prices but everywhere is costly.  Then, I do give to various charities but now I am only giving to one - the rest will have to get by without me.

I also have to think about the future and how I will survive should things get even more costly.

@Puzzle Piece  You're very kind to give to charities, but its ok if some years don't allow you to give as much as before- you're a very kind person.  Do you have a Grocery Outlet Bargain Market grocery store near you? I go there to buy my groceries and it is a lot cheaper than other grocery stores.  There's an app called "Too Good To Go" where you can buy discount food, restaurant meals and groceries from establishments nearby that don't want to waste delicious food from the day before. I use the app for days when I want to eat out for a cheap price.

I've found some ways to stretch a dollar or meal. Meatloaf is cheap, delicious and easy to make.  I eat oatmeal or overnight oats with greek yoghurt  for every breakfast with a cut up apple or some strawberries on top. Protein keeps me full. I make my own protein bars for lunch or I'll cook a cheap cut of fish or chicken and eat some steamed vegetables for lunch. I buy affordable cuts of meat for dinner and I make my own spice rubs or marinades to make a delicious meal. I make hearty soups and stews with meat and vegetables. I'll slice a raw chicken breast into two or even three  fillets to make it go further and I'll grill those up to use for salad toppers or in sandwiches.  I fill up on salad, green beans or brussel sprouts as a side dish to lunch and dinner.

Candy, especially chocolate, is up in price across the board everywhere.

If you want real chocolate candy like See's that is $30.00 or more a pound. I purchased 27 Anastasia coconut patties for $19.98. I also purchased 40 Lindt for $22.98. If you like good chocolate it is costly. What isn"t expensive today. The good old days are gone.

I'm not picking on the Q but I find the price of chocolate cancy and treat, along with cookies just outrageous in price. I try to buy several people some treats for the holidays but now, I cannot as I am on a fixed income.

How will you afford your sweet treats for others?

@Puzzle Piece

Of course cost is a big consideration, but, for me, it's also the CONVENIENCE FACTOR.

It's one thing to do the shopping in a B&M store ... or shopping mall .... but then there's wrapping, shipping and all that.

Honestly, I'll pay extra money to NOT stand in line at the post office!

I may be retired, but that doesn't mean my time isn't valuable ... to me.

Suggestion:

While you still have some time, why not see what other retailers ship nice things?

It may also be time to re-think what you usually give as gifts.  The price of cocoa is up and increasing butter prices is next.

Don't spend more than you have to, and don't feel trapped into a routine.

Maybe it's time to re-think everything.

@Rosebud 06  I love See's Candy 😀!  I like to go to the See's candy stores in the mall because they give me a free sample while I'm ordering a small custom box of chocolate or a few truffles. I got the Lindt TSV from a month or so ago and that's more than enough chocolate for the next year 😄.
