People don't use "fewer than" correctly now either.

Being phony must be a requisite to host on QVC!

And Kevin O'Leary roasts for $139. Host: And for under $140, you get these succulent roasts. Hey, as long as I can get them for under $140, I'm sold.  LOL!

With annual net profits in the BILLIONS of dollars globally, I think it safe to say this company knows a thing or two, or three regarding effective marketing techniques, and proven sales tactics.😊

My credit card usage over the years is a testament to just how effective they are.😁

Unless the shipping & handling fee is free, it isn't even true.

Okay, I give up ... what exactly are you referring to as "phony"?   I don't see how mentioning price in various ways is "phony", so I guess you must be referring to something else .... what are you talking about?

It's been used in various forms for decades and decades.

Look in the grocery store.   Consumers respond to $1.89 or $3.99 versus $2.00 or $4.00.

The Rule of the 9s, psychological pricing, "Charm Pricing."

It has seemed to work for retailers.

Every time I see the term "sales tactics" it seems to be used to imply the retailer is actually trying to "trick" you into buying something.

QVC is a major retailer and of course they want to sell more product.  If you walk into any store, you know you probably want to buy something.  Them advertising or presenting information is part of the sales process, but hardly a sneaky "tactic".

@Sooner the misuse of less vs fewer drives me crazy, but it has made it's way into mainstream media and advertising.

Of all the things to bother me in life the words these hosts use are not a big one for me.  Their job is sales.  I could not do their job, I am thankful they can.

Some of you might think its easy to talk about product for long periods of time, sometimes really boring products but it cannot be easy.  They have people talking in their ear, they must certainly be conscious of sales number, they try to be entertaining so you will stay tuned and hopefully buy whatever it is they are selling.

I am grateful most can do it as well as they do.  I could not.

Cry me a river for the well compensated QVC host.

A tough job is fighting a fire, or being a paramedic, or lifting garbage into a truck or....countless others......these hosts deserve very little "tough job" sympathy.
