Is qvc closing some customer service sites?

I thought I read about layoffs at qvc but I can't find the old thread.  Does anyone know if they are closing some telemarkting sites or laying off people?

I'm wondering how the sales are doing if they are doing layoffs.

They are closing the call center in Port Saint Lucie, FL and 800 people are losing their jobs. It is expected to shut down in 2016.

I think this might be happening more & more.many people shop online or with their phone Apps....it's sad,but it's a fact of this TECH world we live in. i know I never call in anymore.I haven't for years now. It's so much easier to go on my computer and order.

Heard about this, but haven't seen anything. Did see this about HSN closing a distribution center in Virginia:

Re: Is qvc closing some customer service sites?

Certainly the advent of technology has resulted in more self-service options for customers.  I think I have made one phone call in the last year for an issue, and that may be an overestimation on my part.  Many people now opt to use online and automated options, and I believe this is something that will continue particularly as younger people (who prefer technology in many cases) transition into adulthood.

We also have to bear in mind that technology has affected call ceters.  Thanks to cheap VOIP phone switches, call centes have become virtualized, allowing them to exist in multiple locations around the world.  VOIP has also allowed many companies to transition their employees to working at home; this agents to work from home, negating the need for companies to operate actual call centers.

I always order on my computer so I can read the reviews first...I can't remember the last time I placed an order on the phone...

Re: Is qvc closing some customer service sites?

I always order online now.   I don't have to pay tax at HSN if I order online, but if I were to call and place an order, they charge me tax in my state.   So odd.

I like seeing my order number right away and making sure the right card was charged.

I have to say both QVC and HSN's phone reps are very nice and accommodating each time I call for an issue or question.

I always buy on my I Phone or computer.  I cannot remember the last time I called.

Supposedly they are... which begs the question, rhetorical though it might be..., as to how they can always be 'very busy on the phone lines'...

Smiley Wink

In all the years I've shopped here, I think I've placed orders by phone maybe three times total.  Otherwise I order online...  When I call CS it's usually to get help with a question or to resolve an issue, not to place an order.  I do so hope this latest change doesn't mean QVC will become one of those places you call for help and find yourself on hold for far too long...

Will the jobs be shifted to India?  Seems like 800 is a lot of jobs to eliminate all at once.  What were the people doing before - twiddling their thumbs?
