I seldom watch so cannot comment on the present situation.

Years ago the hosts were only allowed neutral and pale colors.  Often Kathy Levine said she polished her nails right before she went on air. (they were still wet)

I remember Mary Beth apologizing for having a band-aid on her finger.

I’m doubting Q has much input in what hosts wear, do to hair, makeup, nails or coach them in speech & manners.

It seems like they’d take anyone off the street who’s willing to stand in front of the cameras & sell.

There are no set standards.

I thought years ago they did have a manicurist in house but I guess that wasn't correct.

Some of their nails look ghastly.  I can think of one host in particular who wears the glitter polish.  Sometimes her cuticles are horrendous. Sorry but I would no sooner go on tv with raggedy nails as I would without make-up.  LOL

I remember when the hosts were only allowed to wear neutral polish and how they would talk about getting a memo if they had on red polish or some other non-neutral color.  LOL

Colleen Lopez on HSN has impeccable hands.  I have never once seen her with nails that look well past needing a fill, chipped polish, snagged cuticles, etc.  She said she gets her nails done every week.  She presents a lot of jewelry so that's important.

If you think anyone on QVC is bad, you should see some of the other stations.  I have seen hosts on JTV so badly in need of a fill, her acrylics were grown out halfway down her natural nail.  That is not all that uncommon on JTV or LC.

I agree. They have make up artists and hair stylists before they go on air, how about a manicurist?

I feel petty for even addressing this, though. Hosts have a life, too...mom, wife, sister, etc. We know WE don't have all the time in the world for a manicure! Maybe the Q Salon can help a sister out Smiley Wink

I was wondering the same thing @MandyG06.  They have an in-house salon for hair - why not have a manicurist available as well?  You're so right about finding time to get time to get nails done!

Hosts are paid very NICE salaries.  Many of them have help with their children.  Looking good on air is part of their job.  They should be able to find time to have a weekly manicure. There are manicurists who will come to your home and in an hour, you are finished.

QVC is a very large live tv business, right? How can they allow hosts to go on air with chipped, uneven old nail polish (glittery) and nasty cuticles. Sorry its just hard to watch. Why not have an in house manicurist to do manis and pedis before showtime. The pM IM show tonight was a prime example.

They can "allow" anything they want.  If you find it that hard to watch then you have a choice.  We are watchig fashion.

@Equuleus Oh no. Not another “change the channel person”.

@ShanusJust pointing out she has options.

ITA-Well said!! ....

And a LOT of us in the working world have busy lives and schedules too....yet find time to get manicures....Some people around here view the QVC hosts jobs as something real special (like they were working on a cure for cancer or something important--and the hosts life off camera is just so special and unusual)..COME ON folks, they are SALES PEOPLE!!! To sell something on TV requires them to present the product in the most favorably way, and that includes being well groomed including manicures..... They get their schedule ahead of time so they know when they have jewelry shows and should plan to have their nails done beforehand...maybe it would even help their sales!!!  Some of the nails are really gross
