But I don't like the term foodie.  Where did this come from?  Just curious.

Ineresting question -- so I just checked.  According to Wikipedia -- the term has been around since the early '80's.  You can Google for more information.  Too many outside links in the writeup to put the Wikipedia link here.

Thank you Judy!  I thought it might be a QVC term and I'll look!

It was first used by marketing firms to try to reach the masses, those who are not typically considered a "gastronome", which is a big fancy word for someone who enjoys fine food, wine, etc.

So it got dumbed down to "foodie"

It's cutsey

Not invented by QVC or DV

Seems like an appropriate term to me.  No offense here.

Hippie - Noun?    or    Hippie - Adjective?

I don't like the term "foodie" either.  I picture a person stuffing themselves.  Anyway, just don't like that term.

The term denotes someone who enjoys good food, i.e. food prepared with care and ability. A person who enjoys the experience of good food in pleasant surroundings.

Wikipedia › wiki › Foodie
A foodie is a person who has an ardent or refined interest in food and alcoholic beverages. A foodie seeks new food experiences as a hobby rather than simply eating out of convenience or hunger. The terms "gastronome" and "epicure" define the same thing, i.e., a person who enjoys food for pleasure.

It has zero to do with quantity consumed.

Life without Mexican food is no life at all
