I think they were doing so well in the early days because they had the competition of HSN, but not a lot of other websites like we have today.  Almost every store has a website and the ability to order online and many with (what we really want) free shipping.  Target has free shipping and one or two day delivery now plus 5% off all purchases if you use their credit card.  Amazon delivers practically right after you click "place order."  Well, actually the next day.  QVC is slow, charges too much for shipping and for returns.  The hosts just repeat the same  lines over and over.   Also, the quality of QVC items has gone down a lot.

My thoughts have always been that if HSN can offer discounts, coupons, and oodles of free shipping, then why can't QVC?

And, if they don't start offering some incentives to the oldtime customers, they will loose them.    It infuriates me that QVC offers perks to new customers, but ignores those of us who have been with QVC since its inception.

They aren't QVC.  QVC doesn't have to resort to things like that  to draw in customers.  You know that is the intent of special offers and discounts.  To entice you to buy and to spread the word to others, so they will buy.  QVC doesn't need that.  I think QVC draws people in with Easy Pays, which is no small thing.  Shoppers can spread out payments without paying interest on a credit card.  I have noticed that some online sites are doing their own version of Easy Pay.

I was on the computer last night and went to a bunch of different websites, (ordering b day stuff) all of them had free shipping over 50 dollars or 100. I also had coupons earned. These are quality websites, how do they do it and why can't QVC?

QVC relies on their shipping/handling for profits, while other companies rely on merchandise sales only......

Also QVC's overhead is higher with 3 TV channels....and it used to be that they even had to pay cable companies a percent of their sales per channel too (but not sure cable still requires this)......

They don't have to pay for a TV studio, multiple hosts for each program and location shooting.

no locations that much anymore

and when I first began watching the selling point was "we don't have stores                        And now Amy S. always refers to QVC as "our store."  Go figure.   QVC hosts are well-paid so that is a big expense, I'm sure.  Plus their big studio and more employees behind the scenes.  QVC sure doesn't offer good sales at all.  They must have stuff  years and years old and there is hardly any markdown when they are on sale.

Your right about the sale price....$3 or $4 off of their QVC price isn't much of a "sale".....
