While watching the Joan Rivers segment yesterday, I noticed that her butterfly pin has a s/h fee of $7.72, while many of her (much larger) jackets had s/h of $6.72.
I always thought the s/h was detrmined by the size/weight of the package. Am I wrong?

No one on these boards knows, and it really is not our business. QVC can charge whatever it believes the market will bear in regards to shipping, and we can choose whether or not to purchase its products.

KYToby - - I find your response rather arrogant. I have contacted customer service and asked this same question. Will post their reply.

The charges are for shipping and handling not just shipping. If you look at the various Joan Rivers butterfly pins most of them have a different S&H and I imagine they all weigh about the same. The higher priced ones generally have a higher S&H so it is possible that the handling charges may be partly based on the value of the item. More expensive pins, for example, may have fancier or nicer packaging or they may require more warehouse handling because they are locked up in a separate area. There are lots of reasons for higher dollar items to be more costly to "handle"
I don't think QVC is any different than most online retailers. It may seem to us that there is no rhyme or reason to the S&H charges, but, having once worked in the Finance department of a large company myself, I'm sure they have a well planned out approach to those costs.

I've always thought the jewelry piece is more because it likely comes in a bubble wrapped envelope. The jacket comes in a plastic bag or a box. The envelope costs more than a bag or box.

How does QVC calculate shipping/handling charges? Gleefully. Their ridiculous per item S&H is a huge profit generator for them. I love it when the light begins to dawn on people like OP and they suddenly find themselves saying, "Now wait a minute........why should it cost this much to ship each one of these tiny little items???!!!"

Why is everyone always so surprised that a business wants to generate a profit? That is what businesses are supposed to do. They couldn't charge the prices and fees that they do if people weren't buying from them. It is all about supply and demand.
