For the love of Christmas- I've never heard Mary go into specifics about her health, but she did say once that it was "not celiac." People will speculate, but her health is her own business anyway.

It does not make sense sense that intentionally made up her gluten free diet. To what end? And how really does that make her "dishonest?" I'm sure that Mary, who knows her own health, figured that a bite or two of this particular crab cake was not going to make her ill.

I agree, I don't think it does (make her dishonest).  I honestly think people lie in wait for a host to say anything they can pick apart and then run here to post .."did you hear what she/he said...?  It's gotten ridiculous IMO what people are offended by when watching the Q.  The hosts can hardly breathe without someone posting about being offended by it.

Mary has made a disclaimer several times that she can’t test a product because of her gluten intolerance. It is a big deal when she takes a few big bites, and then goes on to say she has them in her freezer and they are her favorite ones.

I say Houston we have a problem!

We know they embellish to sell but come on let’s not be so obvious.

I don't (and won't) pay such close attention to what a host says. They are not my friends or acquantances. They are salespeople, nothing more.

We're all adults and should be able to make decisions without paying such close attention to useless chit chat.

It’s clear that some people don’t like it when the hosts are criticized, but they do lie. To say it’s being sales people is just a rationalization. A few weeks back Terry Conn was presenting Aveda and said it was only for sale in authorized salons. Aveda is sold at Target. Shawn Killinger was presenting a beauty product that was being sold as a two jar set. She said one jar was almost $40 and two jars were almost $100. Really? Even Jayne Brown, whom I’ve enjoyed watching for years, does it. She was presenting a tank from D&Co. that was $28.98. She said you can’t get a burger and fries for that. The week before she said that I had a burger and fries for lunch at a well known Manhattan restaurant - not a fast food place. It cost $19.99. That’s not cheap but it is $8.99 less than the price stated. QVC sells good products at good prices. As long as that’s true there’s no reason to lie about anything.

If you are a QVC lover like I am the hosts become like family, so it’s totally understandable that someone would defend them.

I was surprised to see 8 Greens gummies at Target recently.  Granted, only one kind and not all the dif. flavors the Q has.

a GOOD crabcake contains a lot of lump crab and very little filler.

could she have eaten just a big piece of the lump meat with very little of the filler touching it?

is it possible that there are different levels of severity when you are on a gluten free diet OR have celiac disease? not sure what Mary has?

Re: Host disappointment

[ Edited ]

WOW, yes I do know she is gluten free, but do you think for hosts they can maybe make some custom items? You know what else was a bit strange that I observed, in terms of being able or not be able to eat certain foods. One of my faves Rachel Ellis has mentioned time and time again that she is allergic to CAFFEINE. However, I remember back at Easter she was eating on ITKWD on Sun a Junior Choc Cheesecake shaped in an egg. Then, fast frwd to this past Sun she was eating another choc item. I thought only white chocolate had NO caffeine in it?

I don't think I have ever heard Mary say that she has celiac disease, just that she avoids gluten. Like David avoids carbs. I interpret that as they both feel better when they don't eat them, but having a bite or two will not make them sick. If Mary did actually have celiac disease, then she could NOT have even a bite, without getting seriously ill.

There have been many comments, both here and on other shopping boards, about David's strange ideas of what foods are really low carb. For instance, he claims to eat whole wheat pasta, sweet potato fries, and brown rice because they are lower in carbs. They may have more fiber, which makes them lower in net carbs, but not appropriate in a low carb lifestyle. Now that he has lost the majority of his weight, he may be just having occasional treats, which should not impact his weight loss. That is part of maintaining a significant weight loss.

Since Mary has recently (in the past few years) started talking about eliminating gluten, I am thinking that it is more of a dietary restriction, not the actual celiac disease. I think she would have known that she had that.

Yes, I don't have celiac but wheat is one of my allergens, so I try to cut back on it where I can.

I'm gluten free and have been for 40 years.  I buy the groceries for my house and I am the only one who is gluten-free.

I also buy my favorite items....they aren't necessarily for my consumption, but favorites none the less.

I cook and serve many items with gluten in them.  I just don't eat them.
