Cubic zirconias have completely different chemical compositions than diamonds. They might look similar but they are not alike. There are a few formulas used to make CZs. Diamonds are made of carbon which has been subjected to intense heat and pressure. Lab grown diamonds are made using the same chemistry as naturally formed diamonds. The heat and pressure is added in the lab. QVC is selling Lightbox lab grown diamonds make in the UK by Element Six. Element Six is a member of the DeBeers group of companies! Yes, De Beers is competing against itself. “Element Six are a world leader in the field with over 30 years of research and development, and have pioneered the use of lab-grown diamond in multiple applications, from the sharpest surgical blade to the unrivaled speaker ‘tweeters’ used in Abbey Road studios.” Quoted from the lightbox diamond jewelry website,  lighboxjewelry .com

I must say that I found the jewelry stones very pretty. I’d love to see them in person. Take a look at their website. Nice designs. One big negative is that they don’t sell 14k or 18k jewelry. They sell 10k or gold plated. That’s a big no go fo me.

Once both type of stones are created, they can be cut and polished to look similar. As far as pricing is concerned, for lab grown diamonds, the ownership of the patent for any process to grow them, affects the pricing. If a process results in a better looking, more appealing, or better selling version, pricing can rise. Cost of manufacture including equipment also affects the price. I have a lab grown emerald. The owner of that patent was Chatham. These were known a Chatham emeralds when they were first marketed. Then other companies filed for patents for differing processes in the making of lab grown emeralds and the Chatham prices came way down. By the way, the stone is ugly and it’s lack of imperfection and color makes it stand out as not a natural from origin stone. Emerald (green beryl) color varies based on mineral composition; with a range of colors being available.

Lab created is "LAB" created, not God created. At these prices I rather have God created stones with possible minor "imperfections".  Like people, God left us all with little quirks that make us unique, special and often make us more desirable. I agree, the price point is not justified, And I'm sure there is some type of marking on these stones to indicate to a jeweler they are lab created... so what's the point?

I watched the presentation last night and they look gorgeous but they didn't state the color and carat index; just said that they are really good.  For that kind of purchase I would need DETAILS.

@Hoping for the best :  To me, natural vs man made diamonds are comparable to natural pearls vs cultured pearls.

Watching the products being show....it seemed to me that the Fire Light sparkled and looked nice....BUT i didn't see much color/fire coming off them....just some light blueish color.........i love the colors that can be seen with natural diamonds when they sparkle............i will stick to the real ones for that money
