Re: Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

To be sure, there are trolls on any type of social media. Trolls like attention so they deliberately stir the pot, deliberately hijack a post, feign misunderstanding or take down a post by commenting in an outrageous manner. Don't be a troll, you know when you do this.

@suzyQ3  It's ridiculous. It was a thread they started about a famous person. They're obsessed and when I opined differently I was called me vile, disgusting and worse. They're getting their own threads poofed.  More than one thread.

That's what I meant earlier, certain topics should be "fair game" and just because a poster irrationally idolizes someone or something doesn't give them the right to personally attack another poster who doesn't.  And they did it to others her besides me, because they know those posters they weren't as hard on them as me.

I have no idea what thread you are talking about, but here is my question. Let's just say that the topic was appreciation of "Mickey Mouse" and a bunch of people posted about how much they love mickey, how it brings back great memories for them etc. I am the type of person that would look at the thread title and not even bother to go into it. It's not my cup of tea, so why stir up the bee hive in regards to a subject matter that was probably clearly stated in the title. by people who want to say great things about Mickey Mouse.   Then a person jumps into the thread and states how much they hate Mickey Mouse or something to that affect. Why?? What's the point?? It's stirring the pot for no reason.

You have mentioned being stalked and if that is true then there is no call for that, and it's childish behavior.

Yet again, there are those who simply don't understand message boards. People will reply to others. That is NOT a matter of telling people that they shouldn't have a certain  belief or opinion. It is 99 percent of the time mere disagreement. And yes, the back and forth can get a little rough.

If this is so unbearable, then message boards are not for you.

@suzyQ3

There are Guidelines and Standards that should be followed to keep the Forums a pleasant place and helps to keep it from getting rough.  And this is where the Moderators get involved.....

  • Personal attacks are not allowed - Don't attack or insult another Community member. It's not helpful and it doesn't make for a friendly place. This includes calling other members names. Disagreement is no excuse for poor manners and we will not allow frustration to turn into a personal attack.

               To add to that, @Spurt, the Standards for Participation state this:

"Be respectful and courteous to others, even if you disagree with them.

Do not use language or post content that is unkind or in poor taste or engage in personal attacks."

"Keep your postings relevant to the topic.

This makes it easier for others to follow the conversation."

"Please do not...

          --  engage in harassing, threatening, abusive, violent, discriminatory (racist, sexist, etc.), hostile, or defamatory language or behavior that would be considered inappropriate by any rational person;

          --  use language or post content that is profane, sexually explicit, obscene, pornographic, vulgar, or offensive..."

I am very aware of the Standards. In fact, this was my first post on this thread, @dooBdoo :

I'm not at all suggesting that breaching the Standards is a good idea; what I'm suggesting is that many posters seem to feel quite comfortable stating a strong opinion but not at all comfortable being on the receiving end.

Countless times I've seen threads to which many people have strong opinions that are not personal in nature, yet the OP pops up elsewhere bemoaning the whole process as personally insulting, driven by cliques, etc., etc.

You're talking about the Fashions of the Royals threads?

Yeah. I had posters saying that I had an agenda because I like Meghan Markke's style and dislike Cathy Cambridge's style. Smiley Happy

A couple even attributed someone else's post (quoted another's post and attached my name to it) to prove that I was trolling, "stirring" and contradicting myself for fun.  Nope. Wasn't me.  Never waffled in my opinion about their clothes.  Others piled on. Only one person pointed out that I was not the author of said quote.

Even if I had been, so what? My opinion.

Where do people get off telling you how you should state your opinion? A lot of hypocrisy on these boards.

Just ignore them and continue posting your opinions in your way, without hurling personal insults at individuals on these boards.  I can't, for the life of me, understand why people get so bent out of shape and protective about public figures that they don't even know.

@ILTH   I saw that, I don't remember who accused you of that, but it wasn't right.  At least you defend yourself.

Thanks for your support and encouragement. Obviously it's not just you, or me, the OP too and someone else yesterday started a similar.thread.

Maybe they should just join a Royal Fan Club.

I tend to agree with this, @icezeus, but maybe posters have the right to comment on any thread. Could it be that in such a case as you described, the onus is on the OP and those who agree with her/him to tolerate or just ignore the difference of opinion?

@proudlyfromNJ   Since you chose to bring this up, all I'm saying is that this subject is more insidious than that.

               @suzyQ3,   I'm sorry for that clumsy post -- I definitely do know you're aware of the policies, and also that you'd never suggest that anyone disregard them.    I hope you know I respect and enjoy reading what you have to say, and I've even copied and saved some of your beautifully articulate and insightful comments.    I wasn't clear, and I should've indicated that I wanted to add some information for those who haven't read the standards or guidelines and that it wasn't directed at you -- I apologize for that confusion.❤️

              I agree with your comments, and only can hope that posters will take more time looking at our own tone and style of posting, taking more responsibility for what we post.   I think we are perilously close to causing the Community to be eliminated, in the same way other major sites have permanently closed down their forums.

@icezeus   Mickey Mouse is probably not a great example because Mickey is a cartoon character and has done no harm.

This is not the place for a fan club. This is a place for discussion.  Public figures are fair game.  Attacking another poster is not. That's the subject of this thread.

Re: Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

@icezeus  I'll clarify my thoughts by reiterating what someone said earlier. If you start a thread, you can't or shouldn't expect it too only go in the direction you want. That's just wishful thinking.
