I don't have a gift closet.

Yes, I have a gift closet. It is filled with gifts that people have given to me that I do not need and can't use. I try to purge at least once a year and pass things on to goodwill. No matter how many times I tell people not to buy me gifts, no one listens.

@cjm61 wrote:@DrumPounder I may have missed something, but I don't get the "everyone seems a little stressed out today" comment. I've had a great relaxing day today.
You are very lucky. So few people can have a stress-free day in this country or around the world.
I think everyone seems a little stressed is based on more than oneself. If you follow any of what's happening to people, in our country, or around the world, it's easy to understand why everyone would be stressed.

I have a big, long, beautiful, wooden trunk that I've used for gifts for about three decades. It's been in different places in my home, but now it's at the foot of my bed in my bedroom, with a throw draped across the length of it.
When you open it up, it has a shallow shelf where I keep rolls of wrapping paper, tape, tags, etc. Pick the shelf up and out, then the main part of the trunk has all kinds of gifts I collect all through the year.

i kind of sort of do...
i use a chest of drawers and put things there. its great actually. when i am struggling to add something to a gift, bam, its there!!
mostly Beekman! it really came in handy when i had to add my sister's gift. so hard buying for people as they age. they have everything and you really don't know exactly what they want/need or love. so i usually rely on usable gifts that i know they would like. no more tchotchkes!
i do have a space for wrapping paper ( rarely used), gift bags, ribbbon & bows.
i also hate running out at the last minute to find a gift. better for my sanity and peace to have universal gifts at the ready.
if i i see something through out the year that i know a person would like, then i buy and save for later.
i don't think "gift closets" are a scam, they make sense!

I FINALLY cleared out my "gift closet" after years of breathless advice and threats to stock same from QVC hosts caused it to explode with oversize, expensive "gifts"....
I now give home grown tomatoes, cukes and zukes to my two "old man" neighbors...one who is on 24/7 oxygen and can no longer garden but longs to do so, and the other one who still plods off to work each day at 62 and is too tired to garden....
They seem to enjoy those offerings more than gew gaws and tschotchkees.....
But I confess!!!
I DID just give my garbage man a nice 85" Samsung HDTV that was WAAAAYYYYY in the back of the gift closet....must've been hidden behind the two VitaMixes( SO much more than a blender!!!), the 450 dollar MargaritaMaker, the two magical Hair Growing Caps and the 55 gallon drums of Wen motor oil ...
......and the 15 Halo Bolts (Make great stocking stuffers!!) I had accumulated after I hurriedly acted on the bright, chipper permission granted by TV Shopping hosts to "Go-head!!!! Feel free and buy TWO...one for you!!! and one for your gift closet!!!"
O yeah...I also finally found someone to "gift" my last 'Dad Gum Turkey Fryer'. ( the one that used 50 gallons of oil to oil- boil a 5 pound turkey)...I gave them one or two gallons of Wen Special Oil "shampoo" ( seasonal scents!!!!) to get them started since no one uses these any longer with the advent of air fryers!!! ( which I also bought a few for my gift closet!!!....any new gimmick was fair game!!!)
I ended the gift closet when I started to recognize some of the stuff from friend's closets coming BACK to me that looked suspiciously like the very stuff I gave them from MY closet....you know... serially "re-gifted" stuff coming back to me!!!
I also wanted to stop sleeping IN my closet, which I had begun to do when the gifts got bigger and bigger and more numerous...and I realized I had relented and turmed my master bedroom into the "gift closet" to accomodcate them....
So no..... Gift closet days are over for me!!!

I don't really have a gift closet, I have a Christmas closet. Last year was my last year for hosting Thanksgiving and Easter. I am 71 and I've had enough! But I love Christmas and CIJ. I shop for 23 and this year add 2 great grandkids. So, I have been shopping for Christmas since the day after Christmas! I love it.
