@proudlyfromNJ If something appeals to me I will probably buy it no matter who's hosting the show. However, there are some vendors that I refuse to give my money to.

@HeatherAG I wonder how often family visited her also. I know we as a neighborhood would pick up a few groceries for her or do other errands if needed & I remember she really enjoyed the different kids stopping by for Halloween.

They are having a yard sale this weekend but don't expect to make up anything close to what she spent.
Makes me sad.
In addition to hoarding, it sounds as if the woman might have been dealing with dementia.

@nana59 I just got a shiver down my spine. About 25 years ago, I went on a couple of dates with a very handsome, always well-dressed man that I met while out to dinner with some friends.
He wanted to cook dinner for me, and invited me over to his apartment. I walked (using the term lightly) into a room of wall-to-wall magazines of every genre. Every filthy surface was covered in magazines. No place to sit, until he took a stack and put them on top of another stack (which was immediately unnecessary). He very confidently told me he was very close to winning Publisher's Clearing House. He said he even had several coded messages in the mail from Ed McMahon, assuring him he would be a winner before the end of the year.
I never knew what was for dinner since I developed a bad headache, or stomach ache, or something. I wished him good luck. I did not stay or see him again.

I have seen many unopened QVC and HSN boxes on older episodes of Hoarders. Very sad.and lonley people for the most part.

I have a friend who's parent was the same way. They passed away and her bedroom was stacked with unopened QVC boxes. And she did not dementia !
It's a very sad situation.

It is sad---- and it's a hidden problem. Wonder why her daughter was so out of touch for so long that so many packages could accumulate.
I had a friend who was addicted to QVC; she bought and bought and bought. She had opened her purchases, but the overbuying was obvious the minute you walked into her home. She'd even puchased myriad clear plastic boxes for storage and they were stacked even in her living room - this in spite of her having had a shed built and having had one of her bedrooms made into a huge walk-in closet.
She had no children, was estranged from her only brother, and the cousin who was to be her executor lived maybe 6 hours away.
She did finally get control of herself and then bought very little. I know at some point she offered more than a hundred pieces of jewelry for sale on ebay. But by then, another addiction, overeating, had taken control. I think she might have been better off with more QVC.
So many addictions. Is there such a thing as a good one?

I have two stories like that to share.
When we lived in Ohio, a UPS driver told us of a home that he delivers to where there were mounds of packages from QVC piling up outside the door.
My nephew's wife and her mother have a business where they help to clear out people's homes. When I was visiting once, I was at my nephew's where there were two bedrooms FULL of clothing from QVC, One was filled with boxes of shoes, most never worn. The other room had piles and piles of clothing, Susan Graver, Isaac, Denim & Co., etc. This was all from one home, all never worn or in great condition.
This is very sad indeed. Total waste of money. Untold hours sitting in front of the TV.

@Puppy Lips Sad indeed. Today they are having some kind of invitation only sale for her older jewelry, some antiques and some furniture & then the regular yard sale tomorrow & Saturday. Upon thinking about her/her house in the last years I realize she only let us see her entry way & not further in.
