Poor David has a bad case of laryngitis. He was hoarse and had difficulty talking on air today. I was shocked they allowed him to continue. I hope Mary can sub for David tomorrow because he really needs to rest his voice. Green tea with honey helps!! Please QVC I felt awful for him.

Re: David Venable sounded awful

Over the years I have seen QVC hosts muddle through with all manner of throat and voice illnesses. Frankly, I would prefer hearing a sub than watching the poor host try to get through hours of presentations made under awful conditions.

He said he felt fine, just sounded bad.  He kept coughing though.

My guess is that he won't be there tomorrow.  And that would be best for his voice.

Re: David Venable sounded awful

Many years ago Judy Crowell hacked her way through a show. It was awful to listen to and I turned the channel. I think they just don't want to give up their profits. IMHO QVC management shouldn't allow sick hosts on-air. I can't be the only viewer who finds it a turn-off - especially while selling food.

Surely they keep a roster of "on call" hosts who can fill in at a moments notice. Poor David was struggling for hours. I felt sorry for him. QVC needs to put sales commissions aside if a host is sick.

I'm sure QVC and veteran host are different from where I work.....

...but where I work if a person calls in sick, it is an "incident"

incidents count against us. status drops & get stuck with bad shifts.

they'd rather have a sick person than no person  Employee's heath does not matter.

Re: David Venable sounded awful

I’ve heard Jill, Mary Beth, and especially Lisa R try to host with no voice.  Lisa was especially prone to laryngitis; they did replace her several times when it became impossible to speak. They don’t have a room full of subs on standby, so I’m sure everyone tries to finish their show, sick or not.

Re: David Venable sounded awful

If he has this crud that I have good luck to him getting over it quickly. This is the worst cold I have ever had. It just wont go away. I should have stock in the kleenix company. Then the coughing , the sore throat, the hoarseness. I am going on three weeks and still having problems. Being diabetic, it is playing havoc with my blood sugar numbers. Oh well I guess it could be worse but I hope it soon gets better.

David is an adult and made his own decision to work.  Lots of people have to do this every day....most cannot afford to miss work.

I don't mean to sound snarky.  I just think David made his own decision and is doing what he wanted.
