Re: Dan Huges post on social media yesterday.

There is an ad out there right now for QVC FULL TIME PROGRAM HOST at actors access.

"25 to 65 years old, all ethnicities any gender. The ideal host is a masterful storyteller..."

Start date:June 17, 2024

Rate of Pay: $125,000 a year to start

The last line may be his answer! I would imagine he was making much more than that when he lost his QVC host position.

Re: Dan Huges post on social media yesterday.

He always boasted about almost every vendor was "a good friend" and that he had a lot of connections..Wonder if those "good friends" ever tried to help  find him a job?

Many years ago DH's boss came in and told him he was no longer needed( at holiday time)..my kids were little. When they did that he was only entitled to half his pension(years later) and no medical..We all have bills..we adjusted our lifestyle..It took a while to adjust but we managed just fine.

Sorry if I sound callous..live within your means..."no frills"

HSN was also a part of the lay offs.  They just hired yet another new host, but they haven't appeared on air yet.

Hey everyone! Exciting news: QVC is on the lookout for new hosts to add to its on-air team, and I'm thrilled to share all the details with you below. Can't wait to hear from all those interested!

"The ideal host is a masterful storyteller with a passion for shopping and lifestyle products. They should possess a commanding presence along with high credibility and trustworthiness, which allows them to share product knowledge and information genuinely and confidently. Enthusiasm, sincerity, and genuineness are also essential traits for a successful candidate.

Hosts must be quick on their feet and have the ability to engage and entertain their audience, along with an ability to improvise. They should also possess an elevated sense of fashion and inspiring lifestyle while being friendly, warm, and relatable. The objective of this role is to provide a differentiated shopping experience that is both informative and entertaining."

Re: Dan Huges post on social media yesterday.

I got fired from my job at age 61 after 38 years of service. No insurance, no severance. I blew the whistle to the compliance department on fraudulent activity that my boss had ordered me to do.

My experience was terrible, I don't wish this on anyone, except my former boss LOL. Losing my job meant, I lost my health insurance, my seniority in the company, my income, my associates who I socialized with daily. When the firing happened, I just returned from taking FMLA taking care of my mother, who died.

It was the worst time of my life. Every time I learn that someone lost his or her job, I feel for them.

I ended up with a victory in the end because I had an excellent attorney, but I still make less than I did. I am happy I fought it and put my boss on the hot seat in the end.

This does happen to a lot of people sadly.  It's all about the money always.  The thing that gets me is why wouldn't you want a seasoned person with lots of knowledge and experience to offer?   I would rather pay that person more money and hire less newbies that at times really offer nothing at all.

Re: Dan Huges post on social media yesterday.

There was NO indication that Dan and Carolyn were let go because of their age.

That is an accusation with NO fact basis that any of us would be privvy to.

There were over 400 layoffs at that time and there were a LOT of younger employees who lost their jobs.  The head stylist looked quite young ...and production staff which is typically seen on air younger in age were let go as well.

Previous host layoffs included MANY younger such as Stacy, Gabrielle and several other younger women.

Exactly.

Hosts terminated at HSN at the same time, Shannon Fox and Lesley Ann Machado are much younger than Carolyn and Dan.

The myth that age played a role just continues to be groundlessly perpetuated.  There is -0- evidence that 400 people were terminated due to age.

None of these hosts lost a job due to age.  That others believe this fallacy is tragic and sad.

Look at the requirements.  What they are looking for is a good actor or actress playing the role of a sales host.    That's how I view the hosts.   Each show they do is a performance.   Some hosts are good at acting, some are not.
