DON’T SAY HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY

PLEASE tell hosts to stop saying Happy Memorial Day!  It’s a reverent day to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice serving our county! They could say” please take a

moment this weekend to honor those brave military women and men  who died for our country.”

Re: DON’T SAY HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY

There are several holidays that make the salutation «Happy» seem totally inappropriate or even offensive to some. On the other hand, when QVC hosts are always trying to be upbeat, I can understand their misstep regarding Memorial Day. My father and all my uncles fought in WW2, in Europe and in the Pacific. One of my uncles took the first aerial photos of the bombing of Hiroshima. Another uncle was a medic at the Battle of the Bulge. He was seriously wounded and received a medal for his bravery. He is now 95 years old, my last remaining uncle, but I remember all the men in my family from the Greatest Generation, especially on Memorial Day.

My Dad also served during WW2 and not a day would go by that he didn't thank the good Lord for this great country we live in.  My dad was the most patriotic person I ever knew I miss him and honor him on this Memorial Day, and all the other brave men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice so that I can enjoy the freedoms this great USA offers.

Re: DON’T SAY HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY

This is a perennial topic which comes up on these boards

as well as the Internet.

You’ll have good arguments on both sides, but as the years

continue on, the younger generations won’t know the ‘war’ years.

I believe the veterans of today would want the American Public

to be happy about Memorial Day.  Yes, honor it with a lowered

flag until Noon....then celebrate our freedom after that!

Veterans fought and sacrificed so the rest of us could be happy.

Re: DON’T SAY HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY

"This Memorial Day, I will head to the ocean as the sun is coming up. I will spend some time alone, and think about those who never made it back. Then I will return to my wife and kids and be grateful for my life. I will fire up the grill and invite friends over. And I will wish each of them a Happy Memorial Day, knowing full well that this day and the joy it brings are gifts I can never repay. Except, perhaps, by living a life full of happiness as my fallen friends would have wanted."
