For some strange reason I think they tell all the hosts to do that. Some emphasize it so much that it becomes distracting to me anyway.

I think maybe they think it is showcasing the product?

I just can't stop looking at the ridiculous spreaded fingers patting whatever they are selling over and over-yikes!

I always felt she looked ridiculous with those hand movements.

I think CK has beautiful hands! I don't find it distracting at all. Just like most things as we age, hands show age spots and veins more and aren't as attractive. It isn't like she is showing cleavage or something. If my hands were younger looking, I would be sporting beautiful nails and rings too!
