@Georgiagrama I also don't understand why she started saying "on the day."  Makes no sense to me.  What is wrong with "today"?

I think because she was new and was trying to make an impression, but it was so annoying to me, and then things go worse.  Smiley Frustrated   I just gave up when it became the "standard."

Re: Clothing and handbags do not have a gender.

The gender thing is one of those that works my nerves.  I speak French fluently and understand that every noun in that language and other romance languages has a gender assigned.  Not so in English except for the few nouns that others have already mentioned.  The other is referring to QVC as "our store".  QVC is not a store but a shopping network.  Seems there is one specific host who is most frequently guilty of both offenses.  Guess it doesn't bother management as much as it bothers viewers or they would speak with that host and ask for some changes.  That is my input on this topic.

Re: Clothing and handbags do not have a gender.

My pet peeve is using the term price point when giving the specific price of an item.  The definition of "price point" is: a point on a scale of possible prices at which something might be marketed."   The price of a specific item is simply the price.  Price point would apply if describing an entire show of products, or a collection of products, are priced within a particular range -- let's say under $50 (which would be price point).

It may not bother everyone, but misusing language and incorrect terminology should not be accepted as ok by QVC, or any other broadcast company.

Infantilizing women, can you imagine men being marketed to in this way? Blame it on the Kardashians.

I think we can give the Kardashians a pass on this one.  They already get blame for way too much and mostly by people who don't watch them and know even less about them.Smiley Happy

Using genders doesn't bother me.  I know what he/she means.  It's not something I give my brain permission to think about or angst over.

Q does NOT hire professional speakers.  They hire everyday people to sell products, just like b&m stores or any other retail establishment.  These salespeople just happen to do it on tv.

what is that supposed to mean?  They hire hosts who are sales people -so they should allow them to mis speak on a regular basis? They are supposed to be professionals at what they do and speaking is part of that job! And no -no one in retail presents items and makes what these hosts do-no comparison at all

Spanish:

la blusa = blouse  (la is feminine ... her)

As I remember this, the la is used to indicate that it is a blouse for a woman, not a shirt for a man.  Not to make the blouse a "she".

@Retired08 No, that's not correct.  For instance .. if talking about lady's perfume ... in Spanish it is:

el perfume

La vendedora le traerá el perfume que quiere.

(Therefore, the word 'perfume' is masculine.)

@Mona_L @Georgiagrama

la camisa = man's shirt = shirt/masculine; la/feminine.
