Closing long standing threads

I am a good Q customer, and I enjoy and am grateful for this community. But suddenly, without any warning many long standing threads have been closed to further posting. Why?

I am hoping this is a glitch that will be corrected. Otherwise, closing threads without any warning was extremely discourteous to your customers.
