Re: Christmas in September

[ Edited ]

It is what it is. Take it or leave it. If QVC waited until some folks are ready to think about Christmas, there wouldn't be adequate time to market the goods and get them shipped. Yes, it's Christmas overkill and always has been, but that's how it works. Our choice is to watch it or not, or to watch it selectively.

I am a highly organized person and like to be prepared way ahead of time. It takes me a long time to decorate, but I enjoy it. In my home, most of my trees and decor are up before Thanksgiving (except my dining & family room which remains Fall because I host the dinner.). That makes it easier to do my final fall/Christmas swap turnover with just the two rooms left to do. Most of my gifts are already purchased. December would be way too late for me to start thinking about Christmas and foolish for retailers to wait. I want to enjoy my decorations for as long as possible. I LOVE Christmas in July, as do many others. That is why it keeps showing up year after year. Makes me feel like a little kid!
I can’t understand how seeing Christmas decorations “early” irritates people. Anything goes now, no more stuffy rules. We can even wear white after Labor Day if we want too, lol. 😳😂.
I’m going to say it.....I hope you all have a Merry Christmas!!

It's a turn off for me.  When I turn on the tv in September, a Fall weekend and see the set all decked out for Christmas already and  "Black Friday" sales, I turn the channel.  We all know we can order gifts from QVC, we don't need Christmas shows for 3 months  (plus Christmas in July)...

@Othereeeen  Fantastic answer. Why can't people live in the moment?

I am a year-round shopper!

I always enjoy Christmas in July and continue to shop.  By the time September comes around, I want to be FINISHED with all my shopping!

Then November and December I can leisurely wrap, do cards, decorate, etc.

(Plus I do not have to put up with the substitute workers UPS hires for the holidays who just throw things anywhere....)

Next up....my funeral.

Gotta beat the crowds, the months and years of waiting, the possible loss of cemetery space....

Bought a nice casket on Pre-Funeral Mark Down...( I think it's last year's model...but it was on special and I couldn't resist!!!!)..Only 12 left....started with 20 colors, down to two.

I bought the one David collects.

Lolol. Bam! Mic drop. Best answer. Yep...that's what it all feels like to me too.

Guess what I just told myself...I probably have the tv on too much. I turn it off. Go outside. It's still early Fall. And no one's shoving a snowman down my throat. ha. Anyway...loved your response.

I don't much look forward to Christmas when it is Christmas much less all year round. It's just not what it used to be. It's all about spending money and no one seems happy with anything anyway.Too much strees not enough happiness and joy. If the holiday wasn't so focused on how much money we spend I would like it so much better. I'm not poor or cheap I just hate the whole Black Friday, did you spend enough on this person, did you get the grandkids the same amount of gifts on and on.

Yes!! Yes...me too. Everyone I know too. Family too. We say we wish we could do it differently. Christmas comes...same deal. Last year when it was all over was glad to hear from family with little ones..."they have ENOUGH!" and that "next year...let's have it be about experiences.". Now it's pandemic.  And I've had some personal loss too this year..so personally...I've told those close to me, I'm just skippin' it. And I'm not sad...I'm looking forward to just get away, (driving) and defining different this year, so I don't miss what is no longer there. Granted if we find we need to do something to keep the little ones happy, I'll partake in that.  But I'm with you whole-heartedly on all the above. I'm Christian....I'll still say prayers Christmas Eve, go to a virtual mass. The commercialism...I do less and less each year. We kept up traditions for mom too, which was fun.

So this year....everything is different...good time to redefine. I used to decorate big when I was in the mood, and less when I wasn't. I guess to each her/his own.
