Re: Christmas in July...Yay or Nay???

@Pavkersfan1265 I didn't see it as Shawn disparaging Christians. She was talking about using the bags for Chanukah, birthday, and other events. The hosts say that every year.

A very Shawn moment tonight when she was presenting some giftwrapping bags and said, "I love these because they're not Christian-centric."

Blowing off the true meaning of Christmas was quintessential Shawn Killinger.

I watched that too.  She was saying that the bags were

not all Christmas themed and could be used for birthdays, etc.

But, if you watched, you already know that.

True. Shawn did not say anything about Christian only. She was selling those Kris Kringle reusable gift bags that come in all sorts of patterns to use not only at Christmas, but all through the year. 🤗

I love those handy bags for quick wraps especially when items are not easy to wrap. And I like having non holiday ones to use wherever.

A big NO! Why the entire month? I try not to watch. At my age how many christmas wreaths,, trees and ornaments do I need. Even the food is a pass. I still have the lindts  chocolates from December. I hope the Q is watching this because I am a shopper, but will not watch if it is selling Christmas all day long.

Its not always about you and others who have spent their lives buying things ALREADY.

There are new homeowners who ARE looking for decor. There are new adults looking for gift ideas and party food.

Some of you who are looking to offload, get rid of, and dont need or have no need are responding so myopically. If you dont want anything, dont watch but your attitude about how the shows should not exist is weird.

Never!  I never watch Christmas shows on tv...shopping or movies. I avoid everything Christmas except for going to Mass and seeing family.

I'd be thrilled to skip December altogether.

@Marciirene.  Your preference doesn't matter.  It's going to happen.  Endless debate of the issue won't prevent it.  In fact, Shawn will save Christmas tonight.

Brace yourself.

We know it won't change. But it doesn't mean we have to participate in any of it.  People can choose to like it or hate it or avoid it. Everyone should be able to post their thoughts even if some or a lot of people disagree.

I have avoiding Christmas shows down to an art - with my remote.

Nay, because I think it's stupid 6 months in advance.

I got other places to shop from catalogs, Mall, etc.

Not listening to a bunch of jabber about stuff that doesn't concern me any more.

Waaay back to when I first joined these discussion boards, I made a similar derogatory comment.

A few people told me why it was so important to them, and put me in my place.

The poster explain she & her husband were seniors on a fixed income ... and had several grandchildren.  Being able to purchase various Christmas presents on easy pay meant they could buy presents for the grandkids and not be financially strapped in November and December.

I have to admit, I honestly hadn't thought about that.

So, the moral of the story is .... if you don't like CIJ, just go sit out by the pool and enjoy the summer heat.

Others really look forward to those shows for budgetary reasons.

It works for some. Some people like it. Some people don't like it. Different strokes for different folks. There us no reason to disparage those who don't like it.

Re: Christmas in July...Yay or Nay???

I've bought my first Christmas present of the year so I guess it's a yay for me. Looking forward to Valerie's shows although I really don't need anything more unless I'm going to get rid of some of my things. I was tempted by the Lindt TSV presentation this morning but checked their website and see that I could choose my own flavors for the same price so will buy there. I'll probably keep the channel on all day, checking periodically so I don't miss any great things. With our predicted high temperatures today, sounds like I may need a little thoughts of what's to come.

I find it attitudes toward those who don't like Christmas to be a little weird. It's not always about you either.

Re: Christmas in July...Yay or Nay???

In July, not starting early in June. I don't mind a few shows, or a few TSV days in July, but not 24/7 Christmas since that is what they do October to December acting like everyone celebrates Christmas.
