Why did they choose July and not any other month for this?
Everything is so PC, should it be called something else?

July is midway to Christmas (from January), so that is probably why you hear about "Christmas in July".
As for the name, not sure what else they'd call it. It is a celebration of Christmas spending and merchandise.

Wouldn't midway be June 25th?
Anyway, I find it hard to get excited about trees, decorations, etc. Obviously it is a money maker or they wouldn't do it.

I grew up hearing about "Christmas in July." We never celebrated it, but it was just talked about. I did some research, and in the United States, the tradition seems to have started around the 1940's. It was a way for Christmas presents to reach servicemen overseas in time for the holidays. It also was a way for merchants to get excited about a "dry period" after July 4. Many churches also had (or maybe still have) special "Christmas" services in July.
Another poster on another thread talked about how her family celebrates it. It's adorable! I wish I could remember who it was, but I can't even remember what forum or thread it was. Maybe she'll see this and post it here!

It's not just a qvc thing. Other retailers partake. Today that was the theme on Let's Make A Deal. The audience was dressed in Christmas attire.

That's being a little bit nit-picky, don't you think?
Although I don't necessarily set aside July for shopping Christmas items, it does make sense to get great deals on items you might otherwise be purchasing at a higher price closer to Christmas.
I prefer to shop in January for Christmas decorations, etc., because the prices are like 75% or more off. Now that's a deal! Plus I purchase my gifts throughout the year when there is no stress. If I see a good deal on QVC or another place during the year, then I get the item for my friends/family, wrap it with the dirt-cheap Christmas paper and bows I was able to get in January, and stash them up in a closet.
Then when Christmas comes, I really enjoy going to the malls and looking at the decorations in the store windows. I enjoy my family more and it has provided me year after year with stress-free Holiday time! It works for me, but to each their own, right?

Hallmark was showing holiday movies all week last week. Not sure if it started prior to that and how long it will continue.
I know in the past on July 25 other stations have shown some holiday cartoon type shows like The Grinch.
One of our loca islands has a huge x-mas in July event. DH and I generally head up there with our boat, all decorated for x-mas. It's pretty neat to see the boats all lit in x-mas lights, trees, etc.

Retailers I've seen showing Christmas in July are usually offering great deals, like 50-75% off!

Yes, they over-do it, just as they over-do Christmas programming in general, but Christmas in July is hardly specific to QVC, nor did they invent the practice.
