Can't use my Q Card to purchase a QVC Gift card? wth?

OK someone help me understand this ridiculous change on QVC.COM. You can not use your Q CARD TO PURCHASE A QVC GIFT CARD??? You are taken to an external webiste -CashStar - and have to enter all your personal info plus debit/credit card info!

I know nothing about this vendor nor do I wish to enter any of my info to them! QVC this is a**backwards and an inconvenience and disservice to your loyal customers! I will not be purchasing any gift cards because of this...

@Dolls4me

Maybe because it would be using money to buy money?

I'm thinking it would be like cashier's checks or money orders. HTH

Q Card is just a credit card, right?  Issued by a bank (name on back of card)?  No idea why you can't use a bank-issued credit card to buy a gift card.  Are all Q Card purchases given the Easy Pay option?  Maybe they want to prevent you from using Easy Pay to buy a gift card.  I could understand that, buut it seems there'd be a better way than sending you to a third-party to make the purchase.

One possibility -  because one of thieves' favorite uses for stolen credit cards is to buy gift cards and use them like cash one step removed from the actusl card, it's possible the diversion is to make the card buyer prove who they really are.

Otherwise, I don't know what they could be doing or why.

Re: Can't use my Q Card to purchase a QVC Gift card? wth?

Last year when they had the deal to get a free $25 gift card with every $100 gift card you order I bought a couple and at that time I was sent to a different site to complete that transaction. I was not using a Q card either - just my regular cc on file.

I sure wish they would have that deal again.

@ValuSkr

Help me here... Would they be afraid someone would try to use a gift card to pay their bill?

When money changes hands (ieSmiley TongueayPal) somebody has to get a percentage.

So a person can't buy a visa gift card for a visa bill, right?

I bought the $100 worth of gift cards & get a free $25 gift card last year too. It did send me to the site you mention for the transaction. I must have used my Visa card. I did not have any problems after using that site to make my purchase. I'm pretty sure you cannot use e-z pay to purchase gift cards. That's a no brainer.

Not sure I understand why you can't use the card or buy gift carads.

If I was at a store I can use say my Macys card to buy gift certificates or I can use my Visa or Bank card to buy the gift cards at the check out at CVS

Stop being afraid of what could go wrong and start being positive what could go right.

Everytime, I see a promo for the 'Q" card, I have heard them say that you can't use it to purchase gift cards.

@LTT1, I think it's safe to say a gift card cannot be used to pay a credit card balance - they can only be used for purchases of goods and services.  However, why the Q Card cannot be used to buy a gift card, I have no idea.  Maybe it's as another poster said - Q is worried about identity thieves and gift cards.  But, even in that case, the bank issuing the Q Card would have to sort it out, not Q itself.  I guess that's all I can venture unless I learn more about the Q Card - what is it exactly.
