The exact cause of Bell’s palsy is not known, but most of the cases are associated with viral infections such as herpes simplex, herpes zoster, Epstein-Barr, cytomegalovirus infections, adenovirus, rubella, mumps virus, influenza B, and coxsackievirus. This is the explanation I found.
