When something you ordered is on “back order” what are the realistic odds of ever receiving it? Does it vary from product to product and is pretty much a ****** shoot? In my case it is a TSV bag that was in stock when I ordered it, but the order never was fulfilled and the status has been “back order” for a while now. Just curious about people’s experiences. Thanks!

In my own experience, the longer your item is on backorder, the more likely it is to be cancelled eventually.

You're waiting for a re-order or a return, both of which get less likely as time goes on. You might be a little more fortunate at this time of year because there will be a rush to return items before the end of the extended return period on January 1st.

My observations:

1) The majority of my backorders are cancelled.

2) It's still worth checking out of stock items every day because sometimes backorders aren't filled even though an item is now being shown as in stock - you can then often place another order which will be fulfilled immediately. You receive the item, you've got it in your hand, and your backorder is still waiting.

3) it's happened more than once to me that both backorders and waitlist orders have been cancelled and then within a day or two the item comes back into stock at a higher price.
I tell myself it's just an unfortunate coincidence of timing but each time I get a little bit more cynical.

@Tommie1965

Up until 2 wks ago, I would have said 100% great chances.

I have Never had a backorder cancelled til now.

Waitlist items, yest...but I had previously received every single backorder.

My AD shipment for Philosophy Dry Shampoo went to BO and was then cancelled.

I have another shipment already due...it went to BO so I am not holding out hope.

Good luck!!

My was AD orders ...maybe since yours was a recent 'in stock' item, you might have a better chance.

@Tommie1965 - According to a response provided by one of the moderators awhile back (I couldn't find it), the "Backorder" status is used when inventory is either in stock or en route to a warehouse but has not yet been processed for shipping. All of the orders I've ever had in a "Backorder" status have eventually been fulfilled—clothing items always more slowly than others. (I'm still not sure why there seem to be more delays with clothing and accessories than with any other category.)

Good luck!  Smiley Happy
