Automatic Mattress removal fees

I ordered the TSV Northern Lights Mattress in the full, medium firm today.  When I checked my cart, there was a charge of $11.95 for "shipping and handling".  I thought it was a mistake so I called CS.  The rep told me that the $11.95 was an automatic electronic charge from the State of Connecticut for the recycling of the old matress and was not a charge from QVC.  This charge applies only to CT, RI and CA and QVC cannot do anything about it.  QVC shoud note what this charge is for and show S&H as free.  Once I receive the new mattress, how do I show proof of payment of the removal fee to have it removed should it be required? Can I call QVC within 30 days to schedule the removal of the old mattress as stated in the information on the recycling charge?  Has anyone else noted this today?

Good point!  This is not mentioned in the description of the recycling fee.  It seems you are still paying for the removal fee with no control over getting your money back.

Re: Automatic Mattress removal fees

My trash company charges $75 to haul away a mattress and it has to be left on the curb for them to get it. They don't come inside to get it so that means i would have to pay someone else to put it out on my curb...probably another $25 for that.

@Whitney400  It's probably like whe you buy a TV.  Last time I remembered there was a recyling fee even if I wasn't replacing a television, so maybe it's a charge for the eventual recycling of the new TV?

@Whitney400Does the fee apply to residents AND non-residents of those states? Are you a resident of one of those states?  Customer service should be able to tell you how the fee is applied.

Re: Automatic Mattress removal fees

There's a local store here that sells mattresses and has free shipping and free removal of the old mattress. If you're keeping the old one they will move it to the room you want it in. This is so convenient that I would not buy a mattress from tv when you can't even lay on it first to see if you like it. I can't imagine the shipping charge to return the mattress if you don't like it.

@Whitney400

I have to say I would never purchase a mattress from here again..

You worry about the charge for hauling the old one away, worry about the warranty from the new one you just purchased.

I purchased 2 that were a TSV months back,

The vendor said over and over, "10 year warranty on this mattress, its what hotels use , you'll love it":

Well I took him for what he said...Neither one lasted more than a few weeks before the sinking holes began to show up.

I phoned CS,, "sorry call the company, out of our hands"

So I did, after taking photo's of this slip on the mattress and the sunken indentations, I waited months before they agreed to replace it,,,Replaced with the same mattress style and you guessed it,, had the same problem with indentations...  I have to claw my way out of this thing and I am small...

So I phoned again and was told, "we're so sorry", I mean you all know the drill you get.. So again, they agreed to deliver another . Again, we are talking months here and they told me it would take 8 weeks before I would see this one....

I never thought of being charged ,for hauling their "mistakes" away,

They never do say it on the Q that you are charged, come to think of it.

Well, if this one does the same, they can come remove this too.

I learned if your getting something like a mattress get it at a store close to you, not through the mail , so to speak,,

You want someone who will back up your purchase, especially when the manufactuer doesn't..

I wish you luck,
