Appropriate Fingernails with Food Presentations Tonight

[ Edited ]

Tonight, 4/9, I turned on Gourmet Holiday for a half hour. I was so pleasantly surprised to see the host with appropriately short natural nails showing the food. Specifically, the demo of the Beatrice pecan cake showed a closeup of the hosts nails. They were short and her own. Good job! You let us evaluate the cake instead of being distracted by your nails.

That's good to know @PA Mom-mom .  I just don't watch and go online for any shopping but I do miss viewing some times.

I don't care about their nails. Nail are is a big thing these days and I just don't care if they have natural or dramatic nails.

It just seems odd to me that someone could be so distracted by nails that it interferes with watching a presentation or show.

The older I get, the less I care about such trivial things. Life is too short.

Yes. The nails are short, yet very colorful, some with glitter, so I guess tolerance depends upon one's nail preferences and what distracts you.

This pecan cake is awesome!  I highly recommend it.

The wildly colored nails are somewhat distracting but I don't usually watch an entire presentation so can't say they really bother me. It bothers me more to see them when I'm out and about wondering how clean they are and if they touched my food, not the wildly colored ones but the overly long fake ones. Just creeps me out. This is NOT to say everyone who wears long fake nails (not just fake, but some who have their own extremely long ones) are dirty, but I've seen enough to make that observation.

Appropriateness, as far as nails are concerned, should be clean and not ragged in any way. Other than that, you’re trying to apply your judgement and personal opinion of style for nails to what’s subjectively appropriate or not for TV sales.

Obviously QVC management does not agree with your opinion, and that’s all it is, opinion.

I have my likes and dislikes regarding nails, but I’ve only been distracted once. It was when a host’s naturals nails hadn’t seen a manicure in a very long time, and her cuticles were terribly ragged and a couple of fingernails looked dirty (probably makeup). It could be that she was called in to work at the last minute. That was 2 or 3 years ago. Other than that, I’ve never been distracted by a host’s nails.

I completely agree.  I think a nice shorter manicure looks much better, regardless of what's being presented.  The crazy long pointed nails look unprofessional to me.

As a person who constantly must keep trimming her nails, I understand if they tend to grow fast and get out hand.  And YES, they do get dirty very easy, it's unavoidable.  That's another reason I prefer mine at an average length.  I can't imagine even trying to teach with my nails out super long lol.🌸

Re: Appropriate Fingernails with Food Presentations Tonight

I don't like seeing black or white nails. Black nails look too Halloweenish and white nails remind me of my daughters putting White-out on the nails when they were little. Kathy had the white polish recently and I thought a Leah color would have looked better. These comments are from someone who has had a manicure once in her life and removed her artificial nails two day later. I rarely polish my nails. Now my hair is a different story.

Nails don;t bother me as much as long hair hanging over the food, and then they want to keep pushing it back. twistys in the hair keep it behind your head, then when the show is over, let it hang.
