At a job I used to have it was EXTREMELY difficult to get time off approved.  I remember one time I had built up Personal Days, Sick Days and Vacation time and my mother was in the hospital and I wanted off to go be with her.  I was told NO. Keep in mind I had the time available to take but it was denied because the needs of the business overrode the needs of the employee.  I remember once in a meeting the Supervisor complaining that when people took vacations it meant they were being paid for not working...she said this with disgust in her voice.  I finally quit that job.  So, I can certainly see people feeling resentment for others (such as hosts) getting off. Because I know how it feels to not be able to take time off.  I am still upset about not being about to be with my mother and this has been years and years ago.  So I actually can see people being annoyed (or even jealous) when hosts brag about vacations. Because I experienced a place where vacations were hard to come by.

Might want to take look inward if you think its ok to resent others for things you didn't have. Businesses have different vacation, sick leave and personal days policies.

So you worked for a lousy company with a poor record of allowing employees to use part of their compensation package.  Should everyone suffer because you suffered?  If you're feeling resentment about other people at other companies having a more generous plan, that's on you for staying at a company that didn't value you.  I wouldn't work for a company like that.

I'm so tired of the "not your business" nonsense.

Some talk about it incessantly on air and I'm sure Qurate encourages social media posting discussion on the topic.

It is, therefore, intentionally and deliberately made the "business" of each and every viewer, shopper, follower, customer and shareholder.

So if a bank teller, cashier, sales associate or any other employee talks about taking a vacation you feel it is your business to know how many PTO days they receive? You must be kidding.  Do you want the details of why they are on sick leave? How do you know that they talk about vacation"incessantly?" You must spend an inordinate amount of time watching these hosts and documenting how many times they mention vacations?  Maybe you need to get a hobby.

Speaking as someone who doesn't live on these boards, that was a very unkind thing to say. We, in turn, could say you must spend an inordinate amount of  time watching this thread and maybe you need a hobby. Doesn't feel good does it?

PTO policies vary per company obviously but when I retired I had only been at that company 10 years almost to the day. I had 30 days (6 weeks) of PTO. That was pretty much par for the course for companies I had worked for. People who had worked there 20+ years had 2-3 months. We could bank 10 days every year so when you carry time over you can be gone for months. People bank it and retire up to a year early. A generous benefit package is a good way to get and retain good employees. It became a toxic environment and the stress was overwhelming so even benefits are not enough to keep employees if they don't feel valued.I don't really notice on QVC who's gone but good for them if they're on vacation.
