Re: Am I an old fuddy duddy?

HATE tatoos, but lots of people have them!

Courtney has a small one, too

It's going to be one grotesque looking society in another 30-40 years.

I have a friend with "sleeves" on both arms. He's 70.

"Shower decisions" in his 20's ? ( While in the morning shower, saying "ooooh....lets get a cool tattoo today!!")

Up close, they are recognizable as ...something I suppose...

From a distance of ten feet or more?

Looks like he hasn't bathed his arms for 40 years ...just an amalgamation of what looks like dirt.

Thank goodness he never got any on his face and neck ( the TRUE badges of ignorance)

And he already had his job when he  made the decision to decorate himself.

Add saggy skin, and probably tons of skin cancer lesion repair...

No way.

And of course...

Once you decorate yourself like that, and then can't get ANY kind of a job that doesn't involve leaning out of a window and asking do you want fries with that,....

Then you know where you go when you "can't ( won't)" work at job that pays  more than minimum wage and only 25 hours a week, no benefits? ( where you find out ALL your co-workers are spending all thier meager funds on tattooes too..

....and then, one day not long after you're hired and everyone's compared their tattoos before being ordered back to work...(Fryer is ready!!!!) ...you notice the 45 year old co-workers with tattoos handing out fries and still  wearing that greasy smelling uniform...and slowly it dawns on you....and it's too late!!!

Stars and teardrops and script on your neck has doomed you....

And the stuff on your back, shoulders and chest....Bible verses in flowing script, hearts, wings, angels,names of former lovers, flowers, sayings, snakes, women with long flowing hair,,,

Sheeesh, you wonder silently....WHY did I spend all your jing on THAT instead of getting an education????

So where do you go when depression sets in and those funny new moles start to change color under that ink....

Two guesses.....State office first, then apply online for Federal beneifits.

Then you get that little green card ( in PA) and can trot off to Walmart, and the person behind you who worked thier whole lives and didn't do stupid stuff can pay for YOUR groceries!!

But that tattoo script on your neck ( ridiculous sayings printed there FOREVER) and those little stars and teardrops on your cheeks and foreheads sure are cool!! ( or "Cute" if you're a woman!!!).

And before anyone responds that some billionaire tech CEOS have tattooes...there are 340 million people in the US...your chances of joining them in the C-suite is about one in 1,000,000,000,000,00.

Do you feel lucky?

Or would you like fries with that sir?

Re: Am I an old fuddy duddy?

Extremes, extremes, extremes.

I have a gorgeous, impressionist rose tattoo right above my left ankle.  I've had it for 20 years, I'm now in my early 60's and it looks as beautiful today as the day I got it.

I have a senior dog and I already know the tattoo I'll get when she crosses the rainbow bridge.  In fact, my best friend, a college professor, has my dog's sister and we are getting the same tattoo, her third.

My son, an optician, has two tattoos, in honor of his grandfather who passed in 2005.  Both tasteful and wonderful.

Why would we care what anyone else thinks we look like now or at age 90 (the Lord willing)?  Our character, and what's in out hearts speaks more for us than someone's judgement about my own skin -- always.

@Caaareful Shopper

True....as long as YOU are paying for it.

When you make choices, and are not prepared for the consequences, that's not someone else's problem to correct.

Of course, today it is. It's ALWAYS someone else's fault.

But...there's probably a benefit for that!

@Othereeeen

The thread turned sadly from on air tattoos, yes or no -- into a grandiose societal commentary mixed in and garbled up.

To the OP, no I am not distracted by hosts' tattoos.  I think they are often beautiful self-expressions.  Sometimes they are not, but that's like anything else in beauty and style.

The preachers at our church have many tatoos as well as one of the wives.

@Mom2Dogs

I always say to each their own but I despise tatts and noticed on all the cooking and baking shows a lot of chefs have them and they turn me off no matter how nice these people may be.  As for nose rings, the same opinion as tatts.  What really gets me nauseous is the eyebrow ring and one chef had her dimples pierced and partial shave head tattoed and who knows where else.

Not acceptable by everyone. I would never hire a person who is covered with tattoos. Our society is going downhill.

A small one is fine. To be covered means that there is something wrong with the person who has them.

Re: Am I an old fuddy duddy?

I so agree. There's got to be something mentally wrong with a person who would tattoo their body. I've always thought that.
