what are you getting your doggies for Christmas?

It was easier for me when they were younger but now that they are older and don't play alot anymore, I have a hard time thinking of what to get them. It is silly but we always get our pets gifts at Christmas. They actually love to tear the paper off and tear open the boxes (one likes the boxes more than the gifts, lol, just like a kid!).  I already got treats but trying to think of something fun, especially for one that is very inquisitive and loves puzzles. one of his favorite games is to put a stuffed animal in a cardboard box, cloes it up and then he has to try to figure out how to open it and get the stuffy out.

Any ideas? Anyone else getting their pups gifts?

@Keeper of the koi oh yes, my dog LOVES those but it takes him a second to get them out and then he proceeded to shred each and every bee (there is a squirrel one too) and squirrel to pieces, lol. I need to look for those star wars dog toys! That sounds like fun (at least for me, lol)! Seriously though, he'd like a Chewy one for sure, lol.

Re: what are you getting your doggies for Christmas?

I'm getting her a new supply of bully sticks.  (FYI, these are not rawhide.)  And some new toys since no matter how much you launder the old ones, they do have a limited life span and don't get all that clean after a while.

She may also get a new tartan plaid leash to match her tartan plaid harness (the kind that wraps and closes with both Velcro and double-D rings).

I used to have a cat who opened his own presents.  My dog waits for me to do it for her!  Actually, all my other dogs waited for me to do that.

@GingerPeach I can't give them bully sticks, unfortunately. They are too rich for my boys (read: the runs, lol). I was so excited to try them since we don't do rawhide but even when I gave them a tiny bit, they had the "issue", lol.

I have one dog who has never really played with toys. He prefers chasing and being chased. That is his "thing", lol. However, there are two toys he likes. One is a furry man he liked to suck on, like a comfort thing. It really relaxes him. Unfortunately, I cannot find one anywhere- they make them out of a different type of material and he only likes this material. Here is what it looks like (yes, it is several years old and goes through regular washings but still looks nasty, lol. If anyone EVERY finds one of these, please let me know! I've been looking for years for a new one to replace this ragged, worn one, lol.

The second one was also discontinued- a rubber chew toy he liked to chew on. No other chew toy works - they are either too hard, too soft and breaks into bits, or smells funny (some rubbers are really strong scented and he doesn't like that). I'd love to find a new rubber toy he could exercise his jaw. He doesn't like to chew on toys or other things so this was his only real exercise and also helped to clean his teeth. It is called Orka dental puck

I am picking up my new dog from a rescue on Saturday.  I lost my YorkiPoo in October to heart disease and I cannot wait to get her.  She was dumped, sick, starved and had pneumonia.  Due to a lot of prayers and great vet care she has come around and is ready for a new life.  I will give her a warm, quiet home with lots of good food and tons of love.  Then, I will give her anything she wants.  She is about ten years old and I intend to let her live out her life in comfort and joy. 😃

Hi @HappyDaze

I wish I could help you with your dog toy search.  I can feel that toy in my hands and know exactly how much your dog loved it.

Isn't that so annoying when your dog has chosen a favorite and then it's discontinued?  It's almost worse than finding out your favorite lipstick is no longer made!

Whole Foods used to carry a flattish dog toy covered in brown semi-fluffy material.  It turned out to be too big for my dog, but if a WF is close to you, maybe take a look.  It may (or may not) be an OK substitute.  It was supposed to be a moose, I think.

My first dog loved what was actually a cat toy - a tiny stuffed sock with a bell (I always cut off the bell so she wouldn't choke on it).  She loved it so much I stocked up, and then had a lot left after she passed away (at the ripe old age of 17).

As to the bully sticks, there is no "unlimited access" around here.  My dog is small and it's hard to find the smaller ones.  (I don't ever buy the hog ones.)  Sometimes I even take it away (we have a workable exchange behavior worked out) after the stick is half-chewed.  Then it's saved for the next day.  Other than that, I'm lucky my dog can tolerate them.

Happy Days to you and yours, @HappyDaze!!
