Our neighbor had a mare and gelding in the pasture bordering our property. When the mare died, neighbor had to use his backhoe to dig the hole for burial.  While this was going on, his gelding ran down to the fence near us and we watched that poor horse crying for his buddy. Honestly there is no other way to describe it. That horse was crying his heart out, neighing and neighing. It was profoundly sad. 😢 My heart broke for him.
