Why no mention of dog farming for food in Korea

This would be a great time to get the message across that the abusive treatment of raising dogs for meat in Korea needs to stop. Not one word has been shown with the Olympic coverage. They mention lots of different foods, but not the one that needs to be discouraged.

Re: Why no mention of dog farming for food in Korea

The Olympics are not the time to critique any country on anything that we find not to our liking.  We, meaning all of us, come together and put aside our differences to compete on a fair level.

We already have the reputation of being ugly Americans because we can’t mind our own business when we are in other countries.  No one wants us to tell them how to behave or live.

We are using decorum this time around, as we should.

You don’t hear the people in India complaining about our two all beef patty sandwiches, do ya?

        Friend, are you referring to Korea as a whole, or both..sides? I can help to explain some of this, hopefully.

I lived in Korea for five years.  There was dog meat but it wasn't " in your face".  I'm a dog lover and was only exposed to it once, in a local market.  It's their culture, let them be (no worse than horse meat in France etc).

@I1ST5XSwrote:

If they didn't torture the dogs before killing and eating them, it might be less reprehensible.  But since they torture, beat, abuse, cut their paws off while still alive, skin them alive, boil them alive, it is barbaric and sick.   As far as India and cattle, beef are concerned we do not torture livestock and have laws and regulations regarding such.

@I1ST5XS  OMG. Can’t stand to hear any more! Maybe after Olympics are over, more about this issue can be made public and shelters/rescue missions for our 4 legged friends set up...Now is not the right time.

I can hardly think about it.  The abuse makes me so angry.  It has effected my viewing the Olympics to a certain extent.  I have on

y been watching sporadically whereas I usually watch a lot.   I cannot imagine why this country was picked to host.  There are rescue missions ongoing.

Most of the dogs are not tortured before killing and eating them...and it is against the law to eat dogs in Korea, but laws are difficult to enforce and they aren’t.

Here in America we have animals laws too.  We do torture cattle, horses, pigs and chickens before they are slaughtered and eaten.  We have very inhuman treatment of all animals happening all of the time.

And puppy and dog mills do exist. Those poor dogs should be so lucky to be killed. Instead they live their whole life being tortured until they are too old to breed, then disposed of.

We have our own problems here to take care of.  We need to clean up our house before we worry about others.  As Americans we don’t  have to be so smug acting like we are innocent of all animal cruelty.  We have BIG, BIG problems here too.

Just last week a neighbor a mile away found a pit bull in their trash can that was used for dog fighting...I live in burbs.  Who would have guessed?
