I would take him or her in right away... that way you can rule out any illness or problems that if they show up the sellers may not have told you about... and you can address them right away. For a puppy that should not be more than $100 most likely.

Never neglect his dental care either. You'll thank yourself when he is older.
Not at 6 months, they need to be done at 1 yr. they have found it takes longer for bone growth, so most recommend 1 yr.

Congrats, I always take my new babies to the vet the first few days they are home. This way the vet can start the new puppy record and setup your shot schedule going forward. You can also make a list of questions you might have about your baby. This is the time to consider changing vets if you are not happy, this way you can start a robust relationship with vet and pup.
