What joint supplement do you give your elderly dogs?

I have a very picky pug. She already takes pain pills and it is hard to hide them in food that she will eat---no peanut butter, marshmallows, cheese etc. I bought the soft chews made by Cosequin and she won't eat them. There is such a variety of products with glucosamine ranging from 100 mg to 600mg. Some have MSM, some not. I just don't know what to try next.

I have a large, overweight dog who gets Nutramax Dasuquin with MSM (2 daily), a tumeric tablet, a fish oil tablet, Gabapentin (prescription), and Adequin injection once a month (also prescription).  Good luck with your dog!

My 16 year old Jack Russell ate the chewable Cosequin plus MSM Nutramax from PetSmart. Not the chewy ones.
The vet said they were okay for him. They helped for years.

I did have a 18 year old doxie and she started to have problems.  The cousiquin is great for them.  I also used Elk Felt.  It can only be found now on E-Bay.  It is a powder and can be added to their food.  It worked wonders.  It does take time and patience, but it is worth it.  Hope everything works out for you.

Ive had a lot of dogs over the years, and they always willingly gobbled down any pill wrapped in a Pill Pocket.  Actually for most pills, I just use half of one.

I don't give my four year old dog anything, but always gave Frankie and my dogs before her Dasuquin.  My Vet recommended it.  I put it on top of their food, and they ate it.

I use Adequan injections for both of my senior Himalayan cats, and it works wonders.  I have a good relationship with my vet, she sells my the vial and I am able to give the injections at home.

I prefer to use HA (hyaluronic acid).   I look for made in the US pet things.  I get Free Me supplement from TruDog.   It comes in powder form for adding to food and in chews which our elderly Shih Tzu likes.   It has many good ingredients.   They run frequent sales.

You can get liquid HA from Hyaflex made for pets.

@geegerbee Your best bet is to ask your veterinarian! They will be able to give you their best recommendations and eliminate the guess work. If the medication is in pill form, try using Pill Pockets; dog treats made to hold the pill, and is also a treat for them.
