I forgot to mention....I don't feed my cats dry food at all. To be clear, they love it. I have one cat that has serious mega colon issues and can only eat canned food. Hence, they all get canned food. Dry food can be harder to process for many cats, although I understand that some believe it's good for their teeth.

@Goldengate8361 wrote:@JeanLouiseFinch I'm so sorry to hear of your loss! I had a cat, Meredith, that also lived to be 19.5 years old (she passed away about 6 years ago). There's nothing anyone can actually say to make you feel better....just wanted you to know that my heart is with you.
Thanks, @Goldengate8361 I didn't want to hijack this thread with my comments, they just sort of came out as I'm never one who is short on words. I appreciate your kind thoughts, though. DH & I know we did the right thing for our little ol' lady and we're OK.

My vet would prefer I feed wet food only, I actually feed them both.
I usually use Iams or Blue Buffalo.

I feed a mix of Hills M/D dry with some Fancy feast dry mixed in. They also get a 1/4 can of Fancy Feast classic canned mixed with water to make a slurry twice daily. That way I'm sure they are getting some water into them.

They get Blue Buffalo served in a "treat" ball that they nose around at night before bed. About 8:15 the chattering starts, in case we have forgotten the routine, LOL. The little kitty would LOVE to eat only dry food, but mostly they eat wet food and bit of dry at night. They are happy and healthy kitties!

Mostly wet food, but the dry kibble that he does get is Iams Indoor Weight & Hairball Control. Bogey loves his crunchies and the vet said he's doing well.

@JeanLouiseFinch wrote:My DH and I got our first cat in 1981 and have had several since - for several years we had 4 at the same time. In the beginning, we were feeding grocery store brands like Wiskas, Purina Cat Chow, etc. When we became Costco members we switched to Kirkland Signature (Costco's house brand) and stayed on that for many years, as long as we could. Our last cat was so old she had started to lose a few teeth. When that happened, we switched over to canned food so it would be easier for her to eat. Sadly, she's no longer with us. She was old (19 1/2 yrs.) and I was really hoping she'd make it to 20, but it wasn't meant to be. A little over a week ago she suddenly got really bad and it was obvious she was "shutting down". She stopped eating, couldn't walk but a step or two and then would fall over, wasn't cleaning herself anymore, started having periods of shaking, and starred at me with that "help me" look. I knew if I didn't do something she wasn't going to last the night. She's been gone since the 16th. It's weird how you develop certain ways of moving through the day, expecting to see the cat here and there, like checking the chair twice before sitting down so you don't accidentally sit on her. I still catch myself doing that. I felt awful that day, but I know I did the right thing and am OK now. I still have my poochie but haven't ruled out getting another cat sometime.
omgosh your post gave me a lump in my throat. I'm so sorry about you losing her. I lost my old girl a couple of years ago. She was 20, but was feral for the first seven. So she done good--living that long. The first years were rough for the poor thing.
She was a little skitzso in the beginning, so when we came in the front door (we could hear her jump off her perch and hide) so to calm her fears when she heard the front door opening I got in the habit of saying "It's jush me" (Don't know why I said 'jush'...lol). For so long after she died I wanted to say that when I came in. Some times I did and it just sounded so .... hollow.
I was so lost with out my cat, I immediately went to a rescue place looking for her---as if she would *reappear* in another cat/kitten. (Crazy!-- I know, I can't explain it.) But, no she wasn't *there*.
We did rescue another kitty, and she's precious, but nothing like what we had for like half our adult lives.

This is the brand of food that we buy for our kitty, too.
She loves it. It's made in the U.S., from ingredients that are sourced here in the U.S., too. The company is located here too, in WI.
Their food has never been recalled, either.

@chihuahuamom You can order it from Chewy or go to Fromm's website and see where they sell it in your town.
