@spent2much- I lost my Grayson in June. He was 9 years old and died too soon. Unfortunately, I spoiled the daylights out of him, and "untrained" him by giving him people food. We both gained too much weight and he was diagnosed with diabetes a few weeks before he died. My previous dog, a lab mix, lived to be 16, so I certainly wasn't expecting to lose him so early. I have just applied for a Golden rescue and am just beginning that process. Hopefully they will consider me and not turn me down because I allowed Grayson to get so overweight. (Yes, I feel the guilt of all the bad choices I made for him). I have decided against another service dog. Though he was trained to open and close doors, retrieve items I dropped, and even bring me the phone if I asked for it - I was told not to allow him up on the furniture with me or I would no longer be the dominant one in the relationship. I need to cuddle and it's harder for me to get down on the floor now.
