My Barkley a Corgie,,had an "all weather coat' and was insulated against the cold. They are herding dogs and adapted to all kinds of weather.
He still wore a coat or a raincoat on bad days

@151949 I have two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and they are never outside in the woods running around. They are inside dogs and are only outside during walks.
Many dog breeds are indoor pets and cannot be outdoors for long.
My dogs each have a Lands End squall coat and IMO, those coats are awful. They are too thin and not warm enough for little indoor dogs, especially older dogs who need to be kept warm and they are not water proof. They also do not keep their belly area warm.
I own a squall jacket and I love it, but the dog jackets are junk...I hate to say it because I am big Lands End fan. The coats are a very thin piece of fleece sewed to a outer layer of polyester fabric. They are probably good to keep burrs from sicking to the dog’s coat though if they are running though the bush.

We have a Yorkie and he wears clothes for winter strolls. We hold up his sweater or coat and he comes to get it on, knows it's time for a little walk.
Do what's comfortable for your dog and don't worry about what other people say or think. I just feel sympathy for their dog if they have one.

@Still keeper of the koi I wish I could knit or crochet. All I can manage to do is make knots in the yarn.
I can and do embroider. Maybe because knots are allowed and encouraged.

I have the same coat for my little Maltie but it is not fleece,it is wool and a nice quilted lining and without that silver strip . <3 He looks so handsome in it...........lol
I got it from Amazon It's Zack and Zoey brand.
I put a sweater under it anyway, because it is soooooo windy and cold on my hilltop.

The only weird looks I get is from my dog. He absolutely hates the sweater I bought him, but he’s going to be 14 in June and he doesn’t tolerate the cold very well anymore. He’s a miniature schnauzer and the love of our lives. Stubborn and sassy though. 😊

Either one should make them think twice about giving your sweet puppy a strange look.
Why is it that people on this board try to make everything into a my dog vs your kid?
Some dogs have very short fur and little body fat and require a dog coat. Perhaps the OP should consider looking into getting her dog a nice Land's end squall dog jacket instead of wearing cutsie little sweaters on it.I put coats on my weims to go out all the time in the winter, no one ever inferred it was inappropriate. It may be the actual coat they are wearing, not the fact they are wearing a coat. They also had rubber boots if they were going to walk on a salted street, but our dogs were in the woods 90% of the time they were outside.
editted to add -- when dogs spend most of the time inside they do not develop the thick under coat they would get if they were outside dogs.
For some of us ,we think of our dogs as family!!!!

I also have a Maltese....they don't have the undercoat that most breeds have.
We keep her trimmed to about 1 1/2 ...so she wears a sweater when it is below freezing
My brother has 2 Goldens and he has reflective vests for them when he walks them in his neighborhood because they don't have sidewalks...
