There have been posts about this before but the program is ongoing.
Wands for Wildlife is a program run by the Appalachian Wildlife Refuge in North Carolina.
They state, "Old mascara wands are used to remove fly eggs and larva from the fur and feathers of wild animals. They work great because the bristles are close together."
Due to the program's success, they are now only accepting used wands in February and October.

I am going to ask my local wildlife rescues to see whether my local groups might be in need of these used wands, too.
