I also saw they do make a weight management in chicken...but again, salt added.
I'm feeding him Taste Of The Wild...I dont see added salt...so IDK?? But Vet said, cut him back because hes getting heavy, and he has a bad hip. Anyway, just looking since its mentioned here, about the show dogs eating it.
Any opinions??

Sorry, @Dazlin , but TOTW does have salt in it.
ETA - one good thing I read on the TOTW label is that they add taurine. I'll have to research a little more. I read a long time ago that Nature's Domain is the same thing as TOTW but packaged and privately labeled for Costco. Now I'm not so sure that's 100% accurate. We're getting close to the end of our big bag of food so if we're going to switch, this would be the time to do it so I can taper off the old and gradually increase on the new.

@JeanLouiseFinch ...I'm pretty sure Blue Buffalo has taurine(label), yet on Purina Pro Plan I dont see it on the ingredient label, but nutrients deck its listed as a small amount. I have no idea how much they should get. Also, I guess we have to read nutrients on every flavor, or type. Very tiring 😴. As for Gabriel...I'll only switch if I find a weight management. You probably already know, but make sure 1st ingredient IS NOT MEAL, like chicken MEAL, or other meat meal, or by products. It's ok further down on ingredients, but not 1st.
I do cook some ground Turkey with brown rice, green beans, NO SALT chicken broth, turmeric, fresh ground black pepper (aides tumerick), little garlic powder, some pumpkin, all cooked in organic coconut oil. Just a topping every now and then. Giving it more often now, to help Teaspoon eat, my other little Maltese.

I just emailed Blue Buffalo, asked why they dont add Taurine in the Healthy Weight. Maybe theres enough meat protein, so it's not needed. I'm curious to see what they say.

@goldensrbest ...I'm not too thrilled with the ingredients in Purina Pro Plan...alot of corn products, etc.
I understand it's those ingredients you mentioned that lower Taurine absorption. I'm looking at Blue Buffalo Healthy Weight...1st ingredient is chicken, a high source of taurine...but I think it also has peas and potatoes...I'll have to re-check ingredients, I'm not sure. I've been all over the map searching out ingredients, I'm burnt out right now, LOL. I dont want to get too crazy with this....tomorrow, they'll say it's all good🙄. Can always cook some fresh meat for an extra.

Just wanted to report back...I wrote to Blue Buffalo about not seeing Taurine in ingredients. I specifically was asking about The Healthy Weight line....they responded, saying they will be listing it on ingredients, and sent a link for me to view entire ingredients, all highlighted. I saw it listed, and you can also click on any ingredient and the benefits will come up. I appreciate the quick detailed response, and happy Taurine is added, along with many other healthy ingredients.
My daughter bought this for her Pit, and hes doing well on it. I'm going to consider it for Gabriel.

@JeanLouise...just checked again Purina Pro Plan...I'm only seeing Taurine in the large breed Weight management..listed at 0.05. I dont why they dont add it to the rest of their line???
@Dazlin @Yes, it looks like you are correct. Fortunately taurine, I believe, is still in the real meat. However, it’s very inexpensive so supplementation is always an option. I was talking with a groomer friend of mine last night and asked if she had any insight because I’m making a food switch soon. She shared a video with me that I found interesting and informative. I am sharing a link and the video is embedded within the article. Also, if you decide to go with Pro Plan, The have a quiz that will he’ll you narrow down the right formula for your dog. Other companies may have the same.

@JeanLouiseFinch ..Pro Plan is out for me...I didnt care for ingredients...alot of corn products.
I'm going with Blue Buffalo Healthy Weight for my Lab.
I posted earlier about it. I ordered from Petco with repeat delivery. A 30 lb bag runs anywhere from $49.00 to over $53. Petco gave me 1st order for $34.00, and repeat delivery will be $46.00. I've used Petco online before, and I can't say enough about the superb customer service, and reliable deliveries. Just to mention, when I got Gabriel, he had alot of health problems, and Petco worked patiently with me, and gladly refunded me on returned foods, that Gabriel couldn't tolerate. So if this food doesn't work for him, I have no worries returning.
One other thing I'll quickly mention...I bought supplements today from Petco that are multi vitamins and contain 125 mg of Taurine. Mainly for my my Maltese who is having health issues. Something to consider if anyone wants to add supplements perhaps missing in feed. The supplements are called WELL AND GOOD.

I have to question all of this nutrition thing with the pets. My vegan friends were serious about their food choices and wanted the same for their dogs. They fed them a vegan diet since they were pups, they were healthy and lived a long time. I feed my old cat Moe who is 16 Blue Buffalo, he loves it and is healthy for his age. I really would question anything the FDA has to say about anything these days.
