UPDATE ON GABRIEL'S COAT/SHEDDING...

So I made a switch to Diamond Natural for healthy skin and coat, salmon formula.   He was previously on Taste of The Wild, salmon.  Diamond is the same manufacturer but much lower priced.  Seems geared more for coat issues.  I also started slowly on a tiny bit of coconut oil, and 2 eggs a week.   It's been about 3 weeks, and so far, I can say he feels much softer, and silky,  but no reduction in shedding, yet.  Yes I brush him every day!!

My daughter's vet highly recommends Purina for her golden doodle pup...so I looked at Purina Pro plan.  They have one in salmon for sensitive stomach and coat, much higher priced.  Honestly,  I think the Diamond has nicer ingredients....so we'll see how Gabriel does.

@Dazlin    Do you know there are websites that rate the quality and nutritional value of various brands of dog food?  Some are quite surprising.  You can Google them.

@Dazlin   Diamond Naturals should be a good choice for Gabriel.  It gets 4.5 stars (out of 5) on Dog Food Advisor.

Purina Pro Plan has some good choices, too.  Dog Food Advisor rates it with 4 stars.

I hope Gabriel does well on his new food, and I also hope you have good luck with the coconut oil.

Re: UPDATE ON GABRIEL'S COAT/SHEDDING...

@NickNack , I looked at the site, Diamond got 4.5 stars, and I also just received a detailed email from Chewy explaining that Diamond is a nutrient rich food with antioxidants and probiotics,  and goes on to offer alot  more info on the ingredients.   I was impressed and thought that to be great customer service.

So far Gabriel is handling everything very well. I only give maybe 1/4-1/2 teaspoon of coconut oil.   About 2 eggs a week.  I cook the eggs soft, as it's said to be more nutritious, than hard boiled.  We'll see about shedding,  but he feels so soft now🙂

@Dazlin   I'm glad everything you're doing is helping Gabriel.  If it's going to help with the shedding, I think it could take two or three months to see results.

I really like Chewy, too.  They have great service.

Yes, Chewy is the best.

I really like Chewy, too.  They have great service. Not only that, as I was coming home from sending my beloved Buffy to the bridge, there was a flower van sitting in front of my house. Buffy had been on RX meds that i was getting from Chewy and I called and told them I would no longer need them. They sent me a big bouquet of flowers with a lovely card saying they were so sorry for my loss. I called and thanked them and will never forget what a lovely gesture that was.

Re: UPDATE ON GABRIEL'S COAT/SHEDDING...

@arrabella ...thats really special they sent flowers.

The email they sent me regarding yesterday about the food also included best wishes to my late Maltese...so I responded she had passed.  They wrote back a very beautiful, comforting message...I was surprised, and touched.
