"Oscar" as in Oscar Wilde is the first thing that came to my mind. He was a bit kooky but brilliant writer. Had a pet Lobster he would walk on a leash down the street! So that's my 2 cents.

Perhaps start with a favorite country and go from there. Like Ireland. I like Declan.

Or if you had a list of baby names you never used. 

Its gotta mean something or connect somehow for you to like it.

My suggestion is to keep it to two syllables so the you can yell it easier😊

If he was a girl I'd have said  Bjork or Yoko

If he is a German breed how about Helmut  ( H*ll Mutt )

What about naming him after a tool of the trade?  A friend of mine is a contractor and he adopted a little jack russell-ish dog and named him Shim. When I asked him what that was he said "Just a little scrap that keeps things on the level".  That Was Perfect.

Name him what you like but it's always Buddy or Pal or kiddo He'll hear most often anyway.  Say it with love and pup won't care what you say,  just what you mean.
