My Dear Schmoo Family, I have felt your prayers in the last weeks and I thank each of you that have gone on this journey with Mom and I.  God called her home on February 10th.  The last months were so very hard, but her warrior spirit fought on until her last breathe was taken.  I love each of you and soon I will find my way back to share and pray with each of you, my special friends. Thank you for your Blessings..Kim

In my heart of hearts, when we had not heard from you in some time, I felt that your Mom had passed--but I put these thoughts aside, trying to remain hopeful for both of you. I'm profoundly sorry for a loss that is incalculable. If Schmoo was one tough kitty fighter, your beloved mother was in a class by herself. And you are, too, as a daughter.

There are no platitudes that I could ever write to heal your wounded spirit right now. Those of us who have lost our mothers know the special heartbreak. Only this I suggest to you now:  Loss is grief, and grief is love. And here among your Schmoo Family, you'll feel love, always and always. Heart

On Wednesday, March 11, at 5:40 pm Pacific time, kitty "Papa" Gray will cross the bridge to everlasting life and light.

He came into my life over 15 years ago, dumped as an unwanted cat near my home. It took nearly a year of his living as a stray before enough trust was built to become a full member of the family. But once he learned this was his home, he was here to stay, even after he was initiated with his neutering, and vaccinating. We've seen a lot, me and Gray in his life. He was already an adult when he was abandoned, so I figure him 17 or 18 years old. He was pals with several other dump offs in his early years, one which became my feral Momma Kitty, who gave birth to my current set of "babies" (Kipp, Kapp, Teddy, Daisy, +). It was Gray, who took the kittens under his wing, allowing Daisy especially to cuddle and "nurse" him. This was how he gained the name "Papa". "Gray" was the nickname I gave him in his stray life, but then when he became part of the family, the name stuck, but he found his true calling as "Papa Gray".

Gray has lived a very healthy life up until the end, but his heart is giving out on him. He is ready to go, and on Wednesday, my babies and I will say "until we meet again" to Papa Gray.

❤🐱❤

@KitTkat ,

Your Papa Gray got to live his best life in all this world, because he found you.

Your tribute to him tells the story of a sad beginning, until the two of you met. Then his love story began. Such a life well lived.

Releasing a beloved pet is one of life's most difficult times for sure.

You are a treasure, and I know Papa Gray knew just that.

Oh Shop (Kim) I am so very, very sorry!  I lost my Mom 17.5 years ago, and not a day goes by that I don't miss her, even now.  Our Moms are our first loves, our first teachers, our first role models, our first religious instructors, our first everythings, and nobody can ever take their places.  And no matter how well they prepare us for standing on our own two feet, when we know that they are no longer there, standing behind us, ready to catch us if we fall, we never feel quite safe, ever again.

You will remain in my prayers as much as ever as you navigate this new reality you must face.  I rejoice for your Mom, her suffering is ended and she is safe in the arms of her Lord, and waiting patiently until it is your time to join her.

KitTkat, bless you for releasing Papa Gray when he asked you to, you have given him Heaven on earth for 15+ years, and enabled a very long, happy life which he would never have had without your loving care.  He is now your kitty guardian angel, and I know you will see him again some day, when it is your turn to cross over the Rainbow Bridge.

Thursday report:   Thank you to so many members of the Schmoo Family who have posted or given hearts in support of our dear @KitTkat and @Shop Till you Drop  in their deepest grief.  As always, all of you are angels on earth:

@TrafficDiva @newtoallthis @Tissyanne @grandkidsrgreat @seaBreeze @rustysmom and @CamilleP and @doxie1 @Puddles and so many others.

As our friends live fresh in the grip of grief, let's remind them that we are here not just for an initial expression of sympathy, but in the coming days and weeks ahead, too.  We're shoulders to cry on and ears that don't just hear, but listen.

Let's remind them also that they need to be gentle with themselves above all, for a harried soul is not a healing one--as Frankie demonstrates below and so does a photo I took of a endless sky's sunset at Gettysburg, so symbolic of rising from pain just as the sun eventually rises, too, and our hopes with it:
